This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.
Duties
Serves as working leader of 4 or more employees in accomplishing a variety of trades and labor work.
Ensures adequate supplies, material, equipment, and tools are on hand prior to the start of each job, and that needed stock is obtained from supply locations.
Takes direction from the supervisor to ensure there is enough to keep everyone in work crew busy.
Checks work in progress and when finished, checks for compliance with supervisor's instructions on work sequence, procedures, methods, and deadlines.
Answers workers' questions regarding procedures, policies, written instructions, and other directives (e.g., technical orders).
Provides information to supervisor on status and progress of work, causes of delays, and overall work operations and problems (e.g., additional on-the-job training requirements for individual employees).
Assures that safety and housekeeping rules are followed (e.g., assures that machine capacities are not exceeded and that tools are properly used).
Performs self-help and preventive maintenance required to retain facilities in an acceptable state of repair.
Assists supervisor in technical inspection of facilities.
Prepares and submits work orders requests and follow-up on completion of work that is beyond individual capacity.
Performs a wide variety of maintenance tasks in different fields to include: HVAC, Carpentry, Painting, Plumbing, Electrical, and Equipment Repair.
Requirements
- A National Agency Check with Inquiries (NACI) Background Investigation is required.
- A one year probationary period may be required.
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Position is covered by the Civilian Drug Abuse Testing Program. Required to sign a DA form 5019-R, and/or DA form 7412 or a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU).
- This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
- This position requires a valid state driver's license and any installation and/or DoD license required for the type of vehicle being driven.
- This position requires incumbent to work an on-call work schedule to respond to afterhours emergencies. This may include, evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays.

There is no specific length of training or experience required. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision.
Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Maintenance Mechanic Leader~ without more than normal supervision. I have the Ability to Lead or Supervise common Maintenance Mechanic duties, such as the maintenance or repair of variety of large of heating and cooling systems to include boilers, water heaters, electrical panels, equipment motors, surface and recessed lighting, equipment switches; the application of a variety of carpentry skills and techniques in repairing or maintaining a variety of wooden structures, as well as the interpretation and application of building plans and blueprints; painting a variety of items such as stairs, stairways and walls, as well as spackling holes or cracks in ceilings/walls; installation, maintenance, or repair of plumbing systems; maintenance or repair work on building wiring; perform minor repairs on ice machines, refrigerators, walk-in freezers, and/or dishwashers. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating.
Physical Effort: Work requires a considerable amount of physical labor. Continuous walking, bending, stooping, climbing is required. The employee occasionally may lift and carry items that weigh up to 40 pounds or more with the assistance of another employee.
Working Conditions: Work is performed both indoors and outdoors. Exposed to possibility of cuts, bruises, scalds/burns, electrical shocks, and exposure to carbon monoxide and other toxic fumes or chemicals. Protective clothing and devices such as googles, heavy aprons, hard hats, ear protection, steel toed shoes, and gloves must be worn to minimize the potential for accidents.
