You will serve as a Shipwright in the located in the Service Shop (Code 990), Production Resources Department Manager (Code 901), Production Resources Department (Code 900), at NORFOLK NAVAL SHIPYARD.

Duties

You will install and repair bulkheads, wall and floor coverings, ladder treading and other temporary protective coverings. You will erect any staging required to support Production and Public Works Shops on all vessels as needed. You will use knowledge of supporting structures and competence in preparation for launching. You will retain proper qualifications to operate crain, hoist, forklifts, and/or other motor vehicles.

Requirements

  • Must be a US Citizen.
  • Must be determined suitable for federal employment.
  • Must participate in the direct deposit pay program.

  • You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.

  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
  • Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals). You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs.

Qualifications

This job has a screen-out element which will be used to determine minimum eligibility for this job. Applicants who do not receive a minimum of two points on the screen-out element(s) will be found ineligible. The Screen-out Element for this position is: ABILITY TO DO THE WORK OF THE POSITION WITHOUT MORE THAN NORMAL SUPERVISION Reading, interpreting, and working from blueprints, plan, sketches, manufacturers and military specifications; Utilizing shop arithmetic, algebra, and geometry to make accurate layouts of material; Demonstrating skill and knowledge of builds and layouts of bulge blocks as supporting cradles during docking and undocking procedures; Cutting and building blocks and other parts for supporting cradles.; Laying-out center line and reference points for use in docking and undocking of vessels; Distinguishing required adjustments to bilge and keel blocks for proper alignment.
