The primary purpose of this position is to serve as a work leader, to provide training, certification and knowledge of Metallizing Equipment Operator working directly with journey and non-journeymen, performing all tasks assigned to Metallizing Equipment Operating. Also requires the full performance of the full tasks of an expert Metallizing Equipment Operator.
Duties
Provide guidance and passes on to others instructions received from supervisor and gets work started
Assign immediate tasks to be performed by journeymen level mechanics
Operate the thermal spray equipment to build up surfaces of prototype, experimental, and applied research hardware items with thermal, erosion, or corrosion barriers, using highly specialized coatings of metals, alloy, refractory materials, ceramics, resins, etc.
Set up and operates equipment
Utilize safety practices and procedures following established safety rules and regulations to maintain a safe and clean work environment

Qualifications
In order to qualify, you must meet the quality level of experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards Handbook X-118C.
QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Qualification Standard Handbook X-118C for the WG-3700 Metal Processing Family. Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most blue-collar positions, you must meet any screen-out element listed, and show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time.

Working Condition: Work is usually performed in areas that are adequately lighted, ventilated, and safety controlled. Required to use safety equipment such as leather gloves, ear plugs and safety eyewear, due to the danger from burns and metal particles, cuts from sharp object edges. Eye-strain from flames and heated metal. Required to abide by established safety procedures in the performance of duty. Work in high noise area of 85 decibels or above.
