About the Position: As a Training Specialist (Joint Concepts), you will advocate for joint concept development, testing, wargaming, and implementation; AND support USSOUTHCOM Joint Lessons Learned Program, training assessments, Joint Training Plans, and joint doctrine collaboration and updates. This position is located at the Exercises and Coalition Affairs Directorate, Training and Exercises Division in Miami, Florida.

Duties

Leads efforts and correspondence regarding joint concepts, joint warfighting, doctrinal development, wargaming, and implementation. Oversees Joint Training Program and assists with revisions and updates of the command’s Joint Training Plan, to include the Joint Mission Essential Task List (JMETL), Commander’s Training Guidance, joint task force training, and training assessments. Conducts research, develops management tools, conducts analysis, and makes recommendations affecting the command Training Program and other organizational training systems. Supports Lessons Learned Program plans, policy, execution, and after-action reviews (AARs) for USSOUTHCOM operational exercises, wargames, and other commandwide operational activities.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position will require the employee to be able to obtain and maintain a Top-Secret Clearance.
  • This position is covered by the Alcohol and Drug Abuse Prevention and Control Program. Required to sign a DA Form 5019-R and must pass a urinalysis test as required prior to appointment and periodically thereafter.
  • Appointment to this position is subject to a one-year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315. While probationary, the selectee can be terminated with limited appeal rights.
  • Due to the nature of this position, employees are required to work both planned and unscheduled overtime.
  • May be required to work other than normal duty hours, which may include overtime, evenings, weekends, and/or holidays.
  • Term employment is subject to a one-year trial period. Employees serving a trial period can be removed with limited appeal rights.
  • This is a Term position scheduled to last 5 years. A term position may be extended to a maximum of six years depending upon the needs of management.

Applicants must meet all eligibility requirements and minimum qualification requirements prescribed by OPM within 30 days of the closing date of the announcement.
