About the Position: Serves as the Chicago District Security Officer, responsible for all matters pertaining to Security in connection with its civil mission. This includes: directing, planning, developing, coordinating, implementing and managing programs designed primarily to protect personnel, classified and sensitive unclassified information, operations, and/or facilities from various threats.
Duties
Conducts risk assessment and assists the commander in determining asset value and recommends countermeasures.
Plans, prepares, and executes the District Antiterrorism program on behalf of the Commander.
Plans, develops and implements the District's physical security program for all of the Chicago District
Provides oversight of all classified media, handling procedures, associated storage containers, reproduction, destruction, and transmission equipment.
Advises and assists the District staff in determining funding and accomplishing budgeting for security systems and personnel.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position is covered by the Civilian drug testing Program. Incumbent is required to sign a DA Form 5019-R, Condition of Employment for certain civilian positions identified as critical under the Drug Abuse Testing Program.
- Driver’s license may be required.
- This position requires the incumbent obtain the following core SPeD Certification: Security Fundamentals Professional Certification (SFPC) within their first two years of employment.
- May be required to complete a 1 year supervisory probation period.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes assisting with organizing and planning of Personnel, Operations and Physical protection and security activities; reviewing the effectiveness and efficiency of Security protection efforts; maintaining data bases for monitoring active/inactive security clearance; briefing employees, coming/leaving organizations, in security procedures; assisting with developing appropriate plans to enhance security programs; coordinating with a central adjudicating facility on requests for information regarding suitability, including tracking of timelines for employee and agency response, and the thorough review of respondent documents; and initiating temporary/permanent clearance revocation/reinstatement actions. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11).
