About the Position: The positions are located at The U.S Army Research and Development Center (ERDC), located in Vicksburg Ms.
Duties
Scientist performing work in development, testing and evaluation, and coordination of services in program development and execution.
Assists the engineers and scientists in the Geotechnical and Structures Laboratory on major projects which may involve full or scale-model conditions, laboratory simulation or testing equipment, theoretical studies.
Assistance in analyses of statistical or numerical data and preparation on interim and final reports. The correlation of available data and information
Duties may include review of published documents and other information, assistance in the preparation of proposals within the scope of the overall project including planning, preparation, and execution of field or laboratory experiments.
Assist in the development and/or generation and/or application of theories, principles, practical concepts, and processes related to: the physical sciences, geology, engineering and the other traditional science/engineering disciplines.
Traditional science/engineering disciplines (e.g., civil, mechanical, electrical, chemical). techniques, and engineering design standards for the building, transportation, public works, and construction industries;
Testing and evaluation may include operation and oversight of advanced characterization laboratory equipment such as microscopes, chemical analyzers, rheological devices, and/or electrical distribution for projects.
Assist with preparation of reports and technology-transfer products, including writing sections of some reports using writing skills developed through English composition or literature coursework or technical writing experience.
Ability to direct and manage aspects of projects and tests
Development of physical science disciplines, advanced mathematics and critical inquiry and scientific methodology.
Requirements

- This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 25% of the time.
- This position requires a 2 year probationary period.

In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below:
Specialized Experience: I have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the DB-2 grade level in the Federal service includes experience in research and development projects involving engineering, science, and geology.

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-9).
