The Federal Retirement Thrift Investment Board (FRTIB) is looking for highly qualified and motivated individuals to serve in Student Trainee (Administrative) positions as part of our 2024 Summer Internship Program.
This Job Opportunity Announcement (JOA) may be used to fill other Student Trainee (Administrative), GS-0399-4 positions within the FRTIB in the same geographical location with the same qualifications and specialized experience.
Duties
The FRTIB is filling Summer 2024 part-time internship positions. These positions are expected to begin at the end of May or early June and will extend through the summer. In rare situations, these appointments may be extended. As a Pathways summer Intern, you will perform work in connection with the assignments and projects of the office to which you are assigned. Typical work assignments may include:
performing various administrative and beginner level program assignments
supporting assigned office with special projects
reviewing, updating, preparing, and scanning documents
utilizing various software applications to accomplish work activities
The FRTIB Offices participating in the Summer Internship Program and office specific assignments include:
Office of Planning and Risk (OPR) - office specific assignments include assisting in researching Defined Contribution Industry Data for the updating of various tools and work products OPR produces. Preferred skills: ability to ask thought provoking questions, conduct through research and analyze data sets. Preferred majors: Business.
Office of Technology Services (OTS)/Service Delivery Division (SDD) - office specific assignments include beginner level technical assistance, administrative support, and project tasks for the following program service areas: End User Services, Incident Management Services, Communication & Collaboration Services, General Technical Services. Preferred skills: excellent customer service, attention to detail, experience with mobile devices, Microsoft Teams, Windows Operating System, Microsoft applications, Adobe, ability to lift 40 lbs., and type 25 wpm. Preferred majors: Management Information Systems, Management Studies, General Studies, and Technical Communication.
Office of Technology Services (OTS)/IT Security Management Division (ITSMD) - office specific assignments include beginner level support in the following areas: Cybersecurity Framework migration, FedRAMP Package Review, GRC tool (CSAM), and System documentation. Preferred skills: cloud system platforms, cybersecurity frameworks, and risk management. Preferred majors: Computer Science, Cybersecurity, Information Assurance.
Qualifications
Eligibility Requirement:
enrolled or accepted for enrollment on at least a half-time basis at a qualifying educational institution in a certificate, degree, or diploma program;
have a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher on a 4.0 scale;
must be able to work on a part-time basis, 24 hours per week (3 days a week, 8 hours per day); and
must meet the educational requirements below.
Educational Requirement:
Applicants must have completed two full academic years* of post-high school study or have an associate's degree to qualify for this GS-04 student trainee position.
*One full academic year of undergraduate; graduate; vocational; trades; technical or high school education is the number of credit hours determined by the college, university or school to represent 1 year of full-time study. If that information cannot be verified through your transcripts or enrollment verification, an academic year is as follows:
At the undergraduate level, 30 semester hours or 45 quarter hours is comparable to 1 year of undergraduate education.
For study at a business or technical school, 36 weeks of study (20+ classroom hours per week) is comparable to 1 academic year above high school.
Education

If you are using education completed at foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show that the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in the interpretation of foreign education programs.
