You will serve as a Training Specialist (Marine Machinery Mechanic) in the Production Resources Department of PSNS and IMF located at the San Diego detachment. This announcement is for an Upward Mobility Program position.

Duties

You will develop, revise, and adapt various assigned courses and training materials based on course objectives. You will design coursework by determine course content, training aids, and instructional approach. You will conduct technical training courses within classroom and laboratory environments for personnel involved in trades. You will modify teaching approaches to address the needs of students experiencing difficulty comprehending the material or acquiring the appropriate skills. You will evaluate course outcomes such as student scores, student feedback, and assessments of student application of concepts on the job. You will assess instructional approaches, develop materials and evaluations, and recommend adjustments or modifications to training in accordance with evaluation results.

  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
  • Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals). You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • This position requires the ability to lift and carry items weighing 50 pounds.
  • This position is subject to work an uncommon tour, including nights, weekends, and holidays to meet mission requirements. Overtime or night differential pay and/or unusual duty hours may be required.

Qualifications

The Upward Mobility Program is a unique job opportunity. This program is designed to provide Department of Navy employees career growth opportunities who have potential but do not presently meet the Office of Personnel Management qualification requirements for this position. The entry level for this position is GS-07 with a full performance level of GS-11. Knowledge of employees selected may vary and will require the development of an individually tailored training plan to assist them in qualifying for the full performance level of this position. Eligibility requires that the employee be performing satisfactorily, complete all training requirements, acquire the requisite qualifications and have met time-in-grade eligibility for career ladder promotions. GS-07: This recruitment is open to applicants with GS-07 or WG-09 (or higher) equivalent experience demonstrating the ability to assist with developing training materials (e.g., course outline, course content, lesson plans, or exercises) and to assist with providing classroom training to develop workforce knowledge or skills within an organization.
