Duties

Assists the Public Affairs Office in the planning and execution of the installation's command information program to include publication of printed and electronic informational material and operation of the podcast. Serves as a contract officer representative (COR) for civilian enterprise and coordinates the Command Information portion of the command public affairs program. Assists the Public Affairs Officer in maintaining effective relationships with on-post audiences including military units, major command and staff and tenant units. Performs a variety of other public affairs duties in support of the community information and relations program, and various administrative support duties. Assists in the programming, projecting, and writing of news releases, major stories for on-post newspaper, and electronic media coverage of significant annual events. Participates in ensuring legal requirements are fulfilled in determining what information is in the best interest of the installation, major command, government, local community and general public.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Position requires incumbent must obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance.
  • Position requires incumbent to have completed or be able to complete within one year of appointment, the Defense Information School's (DINFOS) Public Affairs Officer Qualification Course, or the Basic Public Affairs Specialist Course (BPASC).
  • A valid state driver's license is required.

This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-09). OR Education: Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as: Public Affairs, Media Relations, Communications Development. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the second year (total graduate semester hours minus 36) by 18. Add the two percentages. You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Communication CounselCommunications and MediaMessage DevelopmentPublic Affairs Policies and Procedures Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-09).
