Duties
Manages and/or performs Armory operations duties to safeguard weapons, ammunition, and equipment.
Performs field maintenance, minor repairs, and inspection of weapons.
Manages armory programs and ensures compliance with regulatory requirements.
Accomplishes special projects/additional duties.

- This position has been designated by the Air Force as a Testing Designated Position (TDP) under the Air Force Civilian Drug Demand Reduction Program. Employee must pass initial and periodic short notice drug testing.

- Must be qualified in the use of required weapons, as the incumbent will be required to use firearms in performing duties. The employee will have resource protection (weapons and ammunition) responsibilities that could include use of deadly force.
- Selectee is required to wear uniforms provided and must wear and maintain uniform items in accordance with specified standards. The employee will be expected to maintain appropriate grooming standards and maintain a professional image at all times.
- IAW SA-2020-25 This position requires a physical/medical examination.
- May occasionally be required to work other than normal duty hours and/or Shift work may be required which may include overtime and/or irregular hours.
- The employee must undergo sufficient pre-employment background check such as to ensure there is no history of psychiatric, emotional, drug, or alcohol incidents.
- Employee must successfully complete annual/recurring training requirements specified for the position.
- This is a Mission-Essential position performing a Mission-Critical-Function which must continue uninterrupted after the occurrence of an emergency and continued through full resumption of all functions.
- Must qualify and maintain qualification on all security forces weapons systems and possess ability to demonstrate operation, maintenance, and combat employment of all weapons systems.
- Position requires access to firearms. Persons convicted of a misdemeanor or felony crime of domestic violence may not occupy this position in accordance with the Gun Control Act of 1968.
- This is a Term position NTE 48 months.
Qualifications
In order to qualify, you must meet the specialized experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, Administrative and Management Positions, Training Instruction Series 1712.
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience at the next lower grade GS-09, or equivalent in other pay systems. Examples of specialized experience includes coordinate, implement, and provide weapons safety training; independently executes training exercises and takes remedial and corrective action to include additional training for operational procedures and instructions; manages ammunition and weapons accounts; submits training munitions forecasts and ensures adequate levels of ammunition are always available for training; ensures assigned small arms and light weapons and ammunition are properly safeguarded and completes 100% inventory of all assigned assets each time the armory is opened or closed; verifies all authorizations to receive weapons and ammunition, ensures weapons are properly handled and cleared before issue or turn-in and verifies individuals are not on a Do Not Arm Roster; maintains, repairs, and returns to depot unserviceable weapons, request replacements, and forecast budget requirements to include weapons parts and support equipment. Ensures explosive safety training is conducted and documented and maintain information concerning weapons maintenance and inspections and document this in the ARIS system.
OR EDUCATION: Successful completion of a master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.B. or J.D., if related.
OR COMBINATION OF EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION: A combination of education and experience above may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%.
FEDERAL TIME-IN-GRADE (TIG) REQUIREMENT FOR GENERAL SCHEDULE (GS) POSITIONS: Merit promotion applicants must meet applicable time-in-grade requirements to be considered eligible. One year at the GS-07 level is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS-09 level. TIG applies if you are in a current GS position or held a GS position within the previous 52 weeks. NOTE: Applicants applying as VEOA candidates who are current GS civil service employees or are prior GS civil service employees within the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:
Knowledge of armory operations and procedures. Knowledge of principles, techniques, and safety involving weapons, weapons security, and combat arms repair procedures.
Knowledge of budget preparation as it applies to preparing operating and capital expenditure training budgets.
Knowledge of special operating requirements, methods, and procedures for enforcing specialized personnel access controls and preventing unauthorized access to areas where stringent security requirements are enforced.
Skills in combat arms resources management, including munitions and parts forecasting, maintenance of assigned weapons, munitions buildings, munitions storage facilities, and armory.
Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
Ability to gather, develop, and analyze a variety of data and to make recommendations based on analysis.
PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
