Reclamation is seeking a tradesworker looking for an opportunity to join a formal apprenticeship at the Hoover Dam. You can make a difference in the West by assisting in meeting increasing water demands while protecting the environment.
Duty Location: Lower Colorado Basin Region located at the Hoover Dam in Clark County, NV.
This position reports daily to the Hoover Dam, telework and remote work are not available; housing is not available.
Limited to first 50 applicants.
Duties
Actively participates in training on specific programs including formal on-site class room training, college courses outside regularly scheduled work hours, correspondence courses, self-study, computer-based training, and formal and informal On-the-Job Training (OJT).
Works effectively with journeymen to obtain a broad perspective of Hydroelectric Mechanic duties and responsibilities.
Gains knowledge, skill and ability in the topics listed below to perform the duties noted below, in varying degrees of competency depending upon the incumbent's current status within the four-year, 8,000 hour program and the type of training provided.
Applies standard learning techniques to acquire the knowledge, skill and ability to perform the duties.
Classroom topics include but are not limited to: fundamentals of electrical theory, technical mathematics, hydraulics theory, lubrication theory, generator rebuilds with related mechanical systems, machining theory, welding theory, and safe crane and rigging operations.
OJT training topics include but are not limited to: use and care of hand tools, operation, and care of the materials and equipment selection and use; safe work practices; hazardous energy control operations with duties assigned to a Job Leader; perform Job Hazard Analyses; powerplant equipment installation, removal, and repair; preventive maintenance; use of electrical schematics and Programmable Logic Computer schematics associated with the generator governors; welding and pipefitting techniques; mechanical system design and maintenance; pump and motor installation and maintenance; crane and rigging competency; precision measuring competency; and use of technical instructions to troubleshoot, diagnose and repair equipment malfunctions.

Minimum qualifications for trades and labor positions are determined by evaluation of job elements.
