Duties

The duty station for this position is the Hoover Dam, NV. This position is targeted to the full Hydroelectric Mechanic journeyman-level. Work performed by the Hydroelectric Mechanic B includes: Performing work involved in maintaining, testing, and repairing all equipment in a hydroelectric powerplant and pumping stations. Overhauling, repairing, evaluating, and performance testing turbines, generators, motors, air compressors, pumps, pressure regulators, eductors, valves, pipes, penstocks, intakes, spillways, diversion dam, and wasteway gates including appurtenant mechanical controls. Erecting scaffolding, platforms, and hoisting devices. Dismantling, reconstructing, precision measuring, welding, machining, repairing, and operating machinery. Operating cranes, hoists, trucks, and industrial tractors, and rigging incidental to lifting, moving, dismantling, assembling, overhauling, and/or repairing hydroelectric powerplant and pumping plan machinery and related equipment. Examining and troubleshooting to determine the extent of repairs required, materials, or parts needed, and to estimate the time required for completing repairs.

Qualifications

You must meet at least 2 points on the screen-out element(s) and obtain an average of at least 2 points on all of the job elements in order to be considered qualified for this position. The Journeyman Level Hydroelectric Mechanic B must be fully skilled in at least 1 of the following trades: Mechanic, Machinist, Pipefitter, Welder, Crane Operator/Rigger, or Millwright. Your response to screen-out element must clearly be reflected in your resume or your application will be marked as not qualified. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Time-In-Grade: Current career or career-conditional employees of the Federal government, or former career or career-conditional employees, who have a break in service of less than one year, are required to meet the time-in-grade restriction of one year of Federal experience at the next lower-grade, with few exceptions outlined in 5 CFR 300.603(b). Applicants eligible under the Land Management Workforce Flexibility Act (LMWFA) are not required to meet time-in-grade restrictions in order to be considered. Selective Placement Factor: This position requires a current, valid Driver's License. Failure to provide proof of such license will cause you to be rated ineligible for this position. You must meet all Eligibility and Qualification requirements, including time-in-grade restrictions and any selective placement factors if applicable, by 02/02/2024.
