This position is located within the Operative Care Service at the Miami VAHS. Reports to the Associate Chief of Surgery. Responsible for analyzing, managing, coordinating, controlling, acquiring, monitoring, and accounting for a variety of biological and non-biological implants and surgical devices or supplies.
Duties
Duties include but are not limited to:
Responsible for closely working with attending physicians, residents, Cath Lab staff, operating room nursing staff, vendors, and any other affected staff, conducting research to ensure appropriate implantable devices are requested, to obtain best pricing meeting all VA/VHA socioeconomic goals, to observe all mandatory contracts, to meet all quality assurance concerns, and to obtain items in a timely fashion.
Responsible for ensuring that existing consignments are used or returned to vendors prior to expiration date of the implant.
Responsible for tracking biological and non-biological implants for the purpose of tracking and notification of affected patients in the event of a product recall in compliance with FDA requirements.
Independently coordinate team practices and philosophies among attending physicians, residents, nursing staff, and management.
Working knowledge of pertinent JCAHO Standards.
Must follow process flow guidelines as developed by Central Office, VISN Service Line management, and facility Surgery, Prosthetic and Acquisition staff.

Qualifications
To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 02/21/2024.
Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-09 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-07. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade. Note: Time-In-Grade requirements also apply to former Federal employees applying for reinstatement as well as current employees applying for Veterans Employment Opportunities Act of 1998 (VEOA) appointment.
You may qualify based on your experience and/or education as described below:
Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-07 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: utilize knowledge of the Joint Commission standards related to transplant safety; Serve as the point of contact for the exchange of information with customers related to implant acquisition; Maintain databases; Analyze stock level and usage schedules, performance management data and purchasing history, and fund control point usage history to determine funds required and execute budget plans for assigned inventory; Log in all incoming tissue, maintain temperature monitoring for storage refrigerators and freezers, maintain daily records to show that tissues were stored at the required temperatures.

Physical Requirements: The work is administrative in nature and often sedentary. However, walking, carrying, stooping, bending and reaching are required to carry out the inventorying, receiving, and stocking the areas assigned. The activities include physical inspection of merchandise received at the dock, movement of palletized cartons, operation of common materiel handling equipment (pallet jack, carts, etc.), unpacking of outer shipping containers, and stocking customer's shelves. The incumbent may lift and carry items that weigh up to 40 pounds. The heavier items are moved with weight handling equipment or with assistance from other workers.
