This position is located in the Morale, Welfare and Recreation Program for activities in the Commander navy Region Southwest (CNRSW). The primary purpose of this position is to oversee the safe operation, custody and maintenance of the Auto Hobby Shop and a retail store maintaining inventory and control of the associated equipment and supplies.
Duties
Responsible for the administration, safe operation, custody and maintenance of the Auto Hobby Shop Garage and Retail Store and associated equipment.
Responsible for cash flow from the following: annual income from Auto Hobby Program fees levied for utilization of the work stalls and equipment; and the annual sales from the retail store. Typical merchandise carried in the retail store may include engine and transmission oil, hydraulic fluids, spark plugs, hardware, etc.
Maintains records pertaining to items requested for purchased, costs, delivery schedules and inventories and facility usage; maintains close liaison with Regional Accounting Office at NRSW, regarding purchase order transaction, outstanding requisitions, inventory adjustments, cost of goods, etc.
Responsible for ensuring that an adequate inventory of automotive tools and equipment is available for checkout to patrons.
Incumbent maintains inventory of all shop-owned tools, supplies, and equipment. Also responsible for determining requirements for timely replacement of worn out or broken tools and equipment.
Ascertains safety of all hands and power tools before checkout to patrons.
Provides technical assistance to patrons in the performance of minor automotive repairs, including overhaul of engines and transmissions.
Instructs patrons in the safe and efficient operations of all equipment and associated tools.
Evaluates on a continuing basis the overall program and submit recommendations to the designated manager for changes to the program.
Recommends fees according to published instructions.
Ensures proactive promotion of facilities. Submits annual budget estimates and justification for expenditures.
Prepares all Auto Hobby Shop safety and accident, injury and/or illness reports for submission. To ensure patron safety, will inspect facilities on a routine basis prior to patron usage.
Is responsible for overall cleanliness of facilities.
Supervises, interviews, selects and trains NF-2 Recreation Assistants and a NA-10 position in all areas of employment and safety.
Requirements
- Must successfully pass the E-Verify employment verification check. Any discrepancies must be resolved as a condition of employment.
- Must meet federal suitability requirements including successful completion of background investigation.
Qualifications
Three years of experience that demonstrates possession of knowledge, skills and abilities related to effectively manage an Auto Hobby repair operation or a related business activity.
Must have the ability to read and interpret parts manuals and manufacturers' repair manuals.
Knowledge of automotive mechanics, automotive troubleshooting and safety procedures to be able to instruct participants in the program being administered.
Ability to maintain financial records and budget.
Knowledge of inventory control, storage, and distribution practices and procedures for automotive tools and parts.
Knowledge of retail business practices.
Knowledge of methods for promoting programs.
Must possess knowledge of proper hazardous waste handling.
Education
A high school diploma or GED is preferred.
