About the position: This position will be assigned to the 773 FSS Outdoor Recreation on JBER, AK.
Recruitment Incentive of $500 may be authorized.
Regular Full-Time employees have a regular and continuous work schedule of at least 35 hours to a maximum of 40 hours per week. Duties
Serve as supervisor. Trains and oversees maintenance mechanics and laborers. Plans the use of equipment, materials, facilities, tool, etc., on a daily or by project basis. Adheres to work priorities, work sequences, project schedules, resources and detailed work plans. Tracks and reports progress on work assignments, and approves overtime, if needed. Determines number and type of workers needed to accomplish specific projects. Makes changes to schedules, priorities, and work sequences as necessary and makes minor deviations in procedures or redirects resources under their control to overcome problems such as equipment failure, material delays or unplanned absences. Observes work in progress to anticipate and resolve problems, reassign personnel within group supervised; and coordinates work among workers and other supervisors to maintain work progress to meet schedules. Investigates work related problems such as excessive costs to determine causes. Inspects/maintains and purchases items. Oversees work progress to meet scheduled deadlines. Reports any actual or potential work delays to supervisor.
Develops performance plans with employees. Plans, establishes and schedules leave; sets performance standards; selects the most suitable applicants for vacancies, determines performance ratings and training need; and prepares and recommends disciplinary actions. Advises and counsels employees on how to improve their performance, and explains new work techniques. Investigates grievances and complaints; resolves them informally, notifying supervisor of those of sufficient importance or seriousness.
Provides a work environment that is free from all forms of discrimination, harassment, and retaliation. Supports agency's EEO program through allocation of personnel to participate in community outreach and recruitment programs, ensures full cooperation of employees with EEO office officials. Address subordinates concerns, whether perceived or real and follows up with appropriate action to correct or eliminate tension in the work place.
Operate snow making equipment for creating manufactured snow from water resources to produce quality snow through the use of air, water, and fan equipment. Perform daily pre-operation inspections and post-operation shutdown procedures snowmaking systems and maintain all appropriate records and documentation regarding operations. Place snow guns and hoses appropriately maintaining/adjusting, turning, or moving of snow guns, sometimes by hand, to maintain efficiency. Maintain all safety, barriers, padding, and guards around equipment. Operate, and repair the lifts for extended periods of time ensuring the safe and continuous operation.
Utilize and maintains a variety of vehicles, equipment, machinery and tools ranging from snow cats, electric snow making machines, chairlift, rope tow, pick-up truck with snowplow, snowmobiles, high pressure air/water pumps, air compressors, after coolers and miscellaneous power tools to facilitate the snowmaking process or repairs. Operate high voltage equipment and high pressure air and water systems utilizing appropriate safety precautions.
Responsible for conducting regular maintenance checks and upkeep of equipment to make sure they are in good mechanical and safe operating condition. Performs routine inspection and maintenance on equipment. Document and report mechanical/safety issues, complete maintenance logs and checklists. Communicate and organize repairs and maintenance of snowmaking system and chair lift. Implements corrective actions within authority to resolve work problems.
Inspect all trails, snowmaking equipment and pipes on a regular basis throughout assigned shift. Maintain load and unload ramps in areas around lift stations in various weather conditions including shoveling and/or raking snow, remove snow around snowmaking equipment and other areas around the resort as needed. Ensure the goals of snow plan are being met. Assist with regular operations and handle any issues that may arise. Monitor the snowmaking system on a continuous basis for water consumption and availability in relation to usable pumps, air consumption and availability, and to ensure that snowmaking is carried. During the off season may be detailed to other FSWO programs. Performs other duties as assigned.

- The duties of this position require the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles.

Qualifying Experience:
Must have functional experience and demonstrated a mastery of facility/ equipment maintenance and the ability to build teams and work with others. Must have at least 1 year of supervisory experience. Must have demonstrated the ability to troubleshoot and determine the need for repair and servicing of facilities, utilities, equipment, and snow making equipment. This experience must have provided a thorough knowledge of and the ability to test and troubleshoot components and systems to locate equipment defects; interpret and apply manufacturer's repair manuals and technical specifications, schematics, diagnostic codes, and safety manuals; operate electronic test equipment. Requires the ability to plan, schedule and direct the work operations of subordinates and a basic knowledge and skill in the use of tools of the trade. Must be able to lift, bend, and work in awkward positions both indoors and outdoors. Must be able to lift objects weighing up to 50 pounds and heavier with assistance. Must be able to satisfactorily complete a pre-employment physical. Must possess a valid motor vehicle operator's license. Must be able to satisfactorily complete a National Agency Check with Inquiries (NACI). Must satisfactorily complete a drug test.
Education
Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. This position does not allow for education substitution.
