This position is part of the Health Administration Service (HAS), located within the Veteran Transportation Service (VTS)and / Beneficiary Travel Section at the James A. Haley Veterans Affairs (VA) Medical Center. This position serves as a primary contact to Veterans for transportation needs.

Duties

***THIS IS NOT A VIRTUAL POSITION, YOU MUST LIVE WITHIN OR BE WILLING TO RELOCATE WITHIN A COMMUTABLE DISTANCE OF THE DUTY LOCATION*** This position involves a multi-grade career ladder. The major duties listed below represent the full performance level of GS-06. At the GS-05 grade level, you will perform assignments of a more limited scope and with less independence. You will progressively acquire the background necessary to perform at the full performance level of GS-06. Promotion is at the discretion of the supervisor and is contingent upon satisfactory performance, availability of higher level work, and availability of funds. Major duties include, but are not limited to, the following: Performs work involving consult management, scheduling Special Mode and Common Carrier transportation; Collects, compiles, and tracks data and statistical information in support of Veteran Transportation Service (VTS); Performs a basic analysis of the data and generates a variety of reports; Processes mileage reimbursement claims using the Beneficiary Travel Self-Service System; Reviews documents, reports and/or applications for omissions and inconsistencies and ensures data entry is complete and accurate; Enters pertinent information into an automated tracking system; Coordinates service practices that decrease waits and delays for patients in all specialty areas; Performs support services e.g., systems management, operations, workload forecasting, review, and reporting of data/statistical results of program/project studies, vehicle maintenance and repair, etc. Coordinates the day-to-day operation of VTS program flow, processes, and functions; Plans and provides support services in the following types of program areas: electronic records management; driver scheduling setup & management; space utilization services. Qualifications

To qualify for this position at the GS-5 level, you must meet the following requirement: SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE GS-5: You must have at least one (1) full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level (GS-04) in the Federal Service, that is directly related to the work of the position and has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the duties as a Transportation Assistant. Qualifying specialized experience includes preparing written instructions and a variety of correspondence; performing data entry into an automated system; scheduling appointments and admissions; collecting, compiling, and tracking of data; and ensuring compliance with regulations and procedures. ~OR~ EDUCATION SUBSTITUTION GS-5 (TRANSCRIPTS REQUIRED) Successfully completed 4 years above high school in any field for which high school graduation or the equivalent is the normal prerequisite. Transcripts must be submitted at time of application. ~OR~ COMBINATION GS-5 (TRANSCRIPTS REQUIRED) Equivalent combination of successfully completed post-high school education in excess of the first 60 semester hours (beyond the second year) and specialized experience as described above, which meet the total experience requirements for this grade level. One full academic year of study (30 semester hours) beyond the second year is equivalent to 6 months of specialized experience. Transcripts must be submitted at time of application. To qualify for this position at the GS-6 level, you must meet the following requirement: SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE GS-6: You must have at least one (1) full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level (GS-05) in the Federal Service, that is directly related to the work of the position and has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the duties as a Transportation Assistant . Qualifying specialized experience includes performing transportation support duties; coordinating connections and scheduling travel; documenting travel information; collecting, compiling, and tracking travel data; and providing travel support services. You will be rated on the following Competencies as part of the assessment questionnaire for this position: Administration and ManagementAuditingClerical IMPORTANT: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. All experience listed on your resume must include the month and year start/end dates. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Physical Requirements: There is exposure to stressful working situations that require a professional attitude and collective reasoning. The incumbent is subject to a high volume of work, the need for accuracy, frequency of interruptions and ever-changing demands due to program changes. Duties will be predominantly performed in the Veteran Transportation Service program office with intermittent trips to various locations throughout the Medical Center's catchment area both in and near patient care areas where there may be risk of exposure to disease.
