As Transportation Coordinator, the incumbent is responsible for the daily operation of the Beneficiary Travel Program at the James A. Haley Veterans' Hospital for inpatient and outpatient transportation needs.
Duties
Major duties include but limited to:
Acts as a liaison between physicians, patients, in-house motor vehicle operators and vendors for making/coordinating travel arrangements.
Operate VISTA, CPRS and the Beneficiary Travel Options.
Initiates and populates reports for the Beneficiary Travel section.
Able to use Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Outlook to complete work.
Ensure that all transportation requests have appropriate medical and administrative documentation and authorization as required byVA directives and manuals and local policy.
Work independently with little supervision to perform duties.
Determines the eligibility of patients to receive reimbursement for travel mileage and/or expenses in accordance with VHA Directives.
Possess knowledge of Beneficiary Travel rules, regulations to determine entitlement to travel and travel reimbursement at the government's expense.
Performs assigned duties in a manner that promotes quality health care, outstanding customer service, and maintenance of an environment committed to serving the Veteran.
Possess exceptional customer service skills to effectively communicate with Veterans, their families, vendors and the general public.
Handle conflict and problems in dealing with the customer constructively and appropriately.

Qualifications
To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 09/21/2023.
Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-06 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-05. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade. Note: Time-In-Grade requirements also apply to former Federal employees applying for reinstatement as well as current employees applying for Veterans Employment Opportunities Act of 1998 (VEOA) appointment.
You may qualify based on your experience as described below:
Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade [GS-05] in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: performs transportation support duties such as coordinating connections/scheduling, documenting travel information; collecting, compiling, and tracking data on a daily basis; performs a basic analysis of data and generates a variety of reports; enters data into automated tracking data bases; and plan and direct a program that provides support services.

Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Physical Requirements: Work is mostly sedentary in nature. There is some standing, reaching and walking and carrying light loads of supplies. Eyestrain may be a problem since a great deal of time is spent inputting data into a computer. Stress may also be a big factor due to highly emotional patients and trying to arrange patient transport at a moment's notice.
