You will serve as a Pipefitter in the Pipe Shop (Code 956), Production Resources Department, Portsmouth Naval Shipyard in Kittery, Maine.

Duties

You will perform work of limited skills which does not require the all-around skills of a pipefitter journeyman. You will assist with or perform work including laying out, cutting, bending, assembling, brazing, fabricating, installing, and testing pipe fittings, fixtures, shop and ship assemblies and piping sections. You will construct or maintain high- and low-pressure steam, distilling, evaporating, hydraulic, air, salt water, oxygen and oil line systems, secondary and potable water systems, etc. aboard ship. You will locate and repair leaks in shipboard piping systems, test and flush ship's systems. You will use blueprints, sketches, and the normal tools associated with the trade.

Qualifications

Qualification requirements emphasis is on the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time. Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the job elements and screen out listed below. This job has a screen-out element which will be used to determine minimum eligibility for this job. Applicants who do not receive a minimum of two points on the screen-out element(s) will be found ineligible. The Screen-out Element for this position is: Ability to do the work of a Pipefitter, WG-4204-08 without more than normal supervision performing duties including: Installing and operating various system valves to obtain proper flow. Reading blueprints, process instructions, and other technical directives. Operating the tools of the pipefitter trade (i.e. pipe bending machines, hydraulic saw, portable end prep machines, test and circulating pumps). Performing layout of work, making templates, and setting up tools.
