You will serve as a PIPEFITTER SUPERVISOR I in the TEMPORARY SERVICES SHOP, PRODUCTION RESOURCES DEPARTMENT of PORTSMOUTH NAVAL SHIPYARD.

Duties

You will consult with other shops on equipment needs and technical problems. You will supervise the Handling, consolidation, marking and packaging of hazardous waste at accumulation areas in accordance with established procedures. You will assist in on the job training and supplement programs through observations or employee recommendations. You will be responsible for fully supporting the Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) policies and procedures.

Requirements

  • Must be a US Citizen.
  • Must be determined suitable for federal employment.
  • Must participate in the direct deposit pay program.

  • Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals). You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs.
  • You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • This position is subject to work an uncommon tour, including nights, weekends, and holidays to meet mission requirements. Overtime or night differential pay and/or unusual duty hours may be required.

The Screen-out Element for this position is: ABILITY TO LEAD OR SUPERVISE Ability to plan sequence of operations, priorities and deadlines of scheduled assignments; Ability to resolve working problems and take corrective actions to overcome delays (i.e. bottlenecks, breakdown, material shortages); Ability to train subordinates in work methods, procedures, proper tool and equipment use, safe practices, operation of new equipment, and other regulations and policies established Ability to review work documents and packages for adequacy and completeness and coordinates any changes needed; Ability to estimate and requisitions tools, materials, equipment and manpower needs for projects; Ability to interpret blueprints, job orders, test memoranda, process instructions, technical work documents and other instructions as required.
