The Motor Vehicle Operator position is located at the VA Medical Center in Leavenworth, Kansas.
Duties
Duties include but are not limited to:
Haul cargo and passengers
Pick up and transport passengers, while driving on public roads at controlled speeds to ensure passenger comfort.
Complete documentation related to transport such as trip tickets and fuel consumption.
Drive vehicles equipped with a power takeoff device for transferring engine power to special-purpose accessory equipment, such as winches, power lifts, plows and spreaders.
Perform operator and preventive maintenance, such as checking fluid levels and air pressure in tires, cleaning and washing vehicle.
Operate vehicles with a gross weight of 10,000 pounds.
Operate vehicles over federal, state and county roads, and city streets to transport passengers, supplies and cargo.
Operate wheeled vehicles, wheel mounted tractors, or engineering and construction equipment.
Perform duties as a wheelchair escort.
Capable of driving in city/highway traffic in all kinds of weather conditions.
Communicate with and treat customers (Veterans, their representatives, visitors, volunteers, and VA staff) in a courteous, tactful, and respectful manner and handles conflict and problems in dealing with the customer, constructively and appropriately.
Perform other duties as assigned.

DESIGNATED DRUG-TESTING POSITION:
Applicants tentatively selected for VA employment in a testing designated position are subject to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment. Applicants who refuse to be tested will be denied employment with VA. Applicants will not be appointed to the position if a verified positive drug test result is received.
Qualifications
The work of this position includes performing tasks common to motor vehicle operation; knowledge of motor vehicle safety rules and regulations; operating vehicles safely; and loading/unloading cargo and/or passengers; and performing preventative maintenance on vehicles.
PHYSICAL EFFORT AND WORK CONDITIONS: Employeemust have good eyesight and normal coordination of hands, arms, legs, and feet, and must be able to bend and stoop. Employee will be expected to lift and handle more than 75 pounds while loading and unloading cargo and while making coupling between equipment and vehicles.
Working conditions are sometimes difficult, working with grease, in extreme heat or cold, unventilated areas, near steam and hot water lines, in rain, high winds, snow, and ice, etc. Employee is expected to work in adverse weather conditions depending on requirements of the job employee is assigned. Employee may be required to report for duty for all emergencies that may occur at the Health Care System/Medical Center. Employee enters and exits heated buildings in all types of weather.
