The Motor Vehicle Operator position is located at the Dwight D. Eisenhower VA Medical Center (VAMC), within the Health Engineering Department in Leavenworth, KS.

Duties

Major Duties: Haul cargo and fuel. Transport passengers, or tow/recover equipment. Operate vehicles with a gross weight of 10,000 pounds. Operate wheeled vehicles, wheel-mounted tractors, or engineering and construction equipment with wheeled or crawler-type traction. During down-time, may perform duties as patient wheelchair escort. Capable of driving in city/highway traffic in all kinds of weather conditions. Responsible for preventative maintenance on vehicles and equipment and minor repairs. Work Schedule: Monday - Friday - 8:00AM - 4:30PM Recruitment & Relocation Incentives: Not authorized

The Selective Placement Factor for this position is: "Possess a valid State of Kansas issued driver's license." PHYSICAL EFFORT AND WORK CONDITIONS: Incumbent must have good eyesight and normal coordination of hands, arms, legs, and feet, and must be able to bend and stoop. Incumbent will be expected to lift and handle more than 75 pounds while loading and unloading cargo and while making coupling between equipment and vehicles. Working conditions are sometimes difficult, working with grease, in extreme heat or cold, unventilated areas, near steam and hot water lines, in rain, high winds, snow, and ice, etc. Incumbent is expected to work in adverse weather conditions depending on requirements of the job incumbent is assigned. Incumbent may be required to report for duties for all emergencies that may occur at the Health Care System/Medical Center. Incumbent enters and exits heated buildings in all types of weather. Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Federal Wage System Qualifications. For this position, the job element method is used to match what you, the applicant, can do against what the work calls for. Your qualifications will first be evaluated against the prescribed screen out element (WG-2 and higher only; screen-outs are not applicable to WG-1).
