Duties
This position is located in the Engineering department at the Leavenworth VAMC location. Preferred experience includes: experience in shuttle bus driving with CDL. Preferred experience also includes ability to operate grounds maintenance equipment to include: snow removal plowing, sanding, and shoveling.
Duties include, but are not limited to, the following:
Exercise all safety regulations and laws at all times.
Operate special purpose vehicles equipped with a power takeoff
Operate vehicles equipped with air brakes and must have the skill to use all levers, pedals, buttons, etc., to control vehicles and equipment.
Ability to operate grounds maintenance equipment to include: snow removal plowing, sanding, and shoveling.
Knowledge and skill to make judgments concerning the loading and arranging of cargo, clearances, turning, radius, braking distance, and the distance to maintain from a preceding vehicle.
Knowledge of laws restricting the use of some roads by the size of the vehicle (e.g., cargo truck, dump truck).
Capable of driving in city/highway traffic in all kinds of weather conditions.
Determines and selects shortest and safest routes, taking into consideration clearances and alternative by-pass routes, arranges cargo to prevent shifting, swaying or tipping of vehicle while transporting
Able to detect minor motor/equipment malfunctions and be skilled in minor repair and preventative maintenance of equipment
Responsible for cleaning the vehicle on a daily basis and is also responsible for the cleanliness and safety of the vehicle

Physical Requirements/Working Conditions:
Incumbent must have good eyesight and normal coordination of hands, arms, legs, and feet, and must be able to bend and stoop. Incumbent will be expected to lift and handle more than 75 pounds while loading and unloading cargo and while making couplings between equipment and vehicles.
Working conditions are sometimes difficult working with grease, in extreme heat or cold, unventilated areas, near steam and hot water lines, in rain, high winds, snow, and ice, etc. Incumbent is expected to work in adverse weather conditions depending on requirements of the job incumbent is assigned.
Incumbent may be required to report for duty for all emergencies that may occur at the Health Care System.
Incumbent enters and exits heated buildings in all types of weather.
