You will serve as a Supply Management Specialist in the Hazardous Material Branch of NAVSUP FLT LOGISTICS CNTR SAN DIEGO.

Duties

You will be responsible for implementing a consistent hazardous material (HAZMAT) management program across Navy Region Southwest. You will support installation tenant commands and squadrons in development, implementation, and management of Hazardous Materials in Accordance With (IAW), Consolidated Hazardous Material Reutilization and Inventory Management Program (CHRIMP). You will serve as the Lead for all HAZMAT related matters, concerning CHRIMP. You will assist customers with screening, pickup and delivery of excess HAZMAT in order to prevent good, unopened and unused HAZMAT from entering the waste stream. You will develop and utilize management reports to determine HAZMAT control (HMC) efficiency and accuracy of data entry into HAZMAT inventory control databases. You will utilize HAZMAT inventory control databases such as Regional Hazardous Material Inventory Control System (RHICS) and Navy Enterprise Resources Planning (N-ERP).

  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • This is a Mission Essential position. You will be required to ensure organization or facility continuity of operations and/or completion of tasks that are considered essential to the mission designated by a local or command decision.
  • This position is considered Key/Non-Combat Essential. You will be required to provide immediate and continuing support of the expeditionary requirements in other than combat or combat support situations.

Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-07) or pay band in the federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector performing Supply Management Specialist work that demonstrates technical and analytical work utilizing a practical knowledge of a wide range of well-established and commonly applied supply principles, concepts, and methodologies to perform inventory management, material coordination, and inventory control of hazardous materials. I have experience and a working knowledge of supply software systems that support the management, coordination, and/or control of hazardous materials. Examples of specialized experience include the following: 1) Apply established methods and procedures of HAZMAT and CHRIMP (Consolidated Hazardous Material Reutilization and Inventory Management Program) management regulations and policies to assist in developing implementation strategies which will reduce risk and cost, increase efficiency and/or improve program compliance; 2) Ability to communicate orally and in writing to prepare management briefings; 3) Apply federal, state, and local HAZMAT laws and regulations and policies in order to adapt established methods and procedures to meet the requirements of the law; 4) Ability to use a variety of computer software systems to review, analyze, and disseminate HAZMAT data by preparing environmental reports; 5) Utilize management reports to determine HAZMAT Control (HMC) efficiency and accuracy of data into HAZMAT inventory control databases such as Regional Hazardous Material Inventory Control System (RHICS) and Navy Enterprise Resources Planning (N-ERP). In lieu of specialized experience, you may qualify with the following education or combination of both education and experience:

GS-09 SUBSTITUTION OF EDUCATION FOR EXPERIENCE: Applicants may substitute the following education for the required experience, provided it demonstrates the knowledge, skills and abilities necessary to do the work of the position: possess a master's or equivalent graduate degree, LL.B, J.D., or have completed two full years of progressively higher graduate level education leading to such a degree. One year of full-time graduate education is considered to be the number of credit hours that the school attended has determined to represent 1 year of full-time study. If that information cannot be obtained from the school, 18 semester hours should be considered as satisfying the 1 year of full-time study requirement.

GS-09 COMBINATION OF EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Combinations of successfully completed graduate education and experience may be used to meet total qualification requirements.
