You will serve as a ENGINEERING TECHNICIAN in the STRUCTURAL SHOP, PRODUCTION RESOURCES DEPARTMENT of PORTSMOUTH NAVAL SHIPYARD.
Duties
You will advise design engineers and process planners of the capabilities and limitations of Computer Numerical Control Machine (CNCM) Tools.
You will provide specific data regarding cost, time, material, and tooling during planning process.
You will perform analytical translation of engineering design layouts and drawings to program control media for the operations of Computer Numerical Control Machine (CNCM) Tools.
You will prepare drawings and operator instructions showing material and tool holder set-ups.
You will prepare and develop programs utilized by robotic manufacturing systems.
Requirements

- You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
- Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals). You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs.
- This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
Qualifications
Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-09 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:
Experience analyzing engineering drawings and other technical data to determine the feasibility of manufacturing, repairing, or modifying a part on Computer Numerical Control Machine (CNCM) Tools.
Experience developing Computer Numerical Control Machine (CNCM) Tools for parts and fixturing utilizing Computer Aided Design/Computer Aided Manufacturing (CAD/CAM) Interactive Graphic Computer techniques.
Experience designing special fixturing, tooling, and furnishing formal drawings for the manufacture.
Experience utilizing the manufacturing processes as they relate to complex Computer Numerical Control Machine (CNCM) Tools characteristics, capabilities, capacities, and metal working principles.
Experience working independently to plan, organize, and establish priorities on a variety of assignments that can be complex in nature.
