This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service. About the Position: These position is located at the TACOM Field Support Operations, Fleet Management Expansion, Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri.

Duties

Disassemble, repair, replace parts, clean, reassemble a variety of automatic and manual weapons. Modify small weapons by replacing obsolete parts and/or assemblies. Examine small arms for defect, mechanical misalignment and malfunctions. Use hand tools, machine tools, test instruments, jigs and alignment devices in making repairs, modifications and adjustments. Operate a variety of Government vehicles to provide maintenance and repair support during field exercises and range firing, receipt and/or turn-in of property and equipment.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position requires a pre-employment Personnel Security Investigation.
  • The duties of this position require the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles and must possess and maintain installation driving privileges.
  • This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter.
  • This position requires successful completion of pre-employment and random drug testing and urinalysis testing prior to appointment and periodically thereafter and also requires DA Form 5019 to be signed.
  • This position is subject to the provisions of the Domestic Violence Offender Gun Ban commonly referred to as the Lautenberg Amendment.

Qualifications

Who May Apply: US Citizens Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. There is no specific length of training or experience required. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision. Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a Small Arms Repairer without more than normal supervision. I can 1) disassemble, repair, replace parts, clean, and reassemble a variety of automatic and manual weapons to ensure proper functionality; 2) make operational checks of repaired weapons to assure safety, accuracy, and ease of operation; and 3) operate a variety of Government vehicles to provide weapons maintenance and repair support during field exercises and range firing, and receipt and/or turn-in of property and equipment. I work under normal supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed. PHYSICAL EFFORT: Frequently lifts sub assemblies or small weapons weighing 15 to 20 pounds; often carries large assemblies or weapons weighing up to 50 pounds. Work requires walking, bending, and long periods of standing. WORKING CONDITIONS: Work is usually performed in well-lighted, heated, and ventilated shops with occasional trips to firing ranges; shop floors are usually concrete. Exposure to excessive noise from test firing weapons; possible injury due to handling tools and weapons; contact with dirt, grease, dust, solvents, and fumes; and more serious injury when unloading jammed or misfired weapons,ricochet bullets, and acids.
