About the Position: This position is located in the Tank-Automotive and Armament Command (TACOM) Field Support Operations, Fleet Management Expansion (FMX), Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri.

Duties

Disassemble weapons, assemblies, and other components; examines for defects, mechanical misalignments, and malfunctions. Replace barrels, firing pins, springs, trigger mechanisms, shell ejectors, sights, safety devices, bolts, stocks, lower receivers, and other parts and assemblies. Modify small weapons by replacing obsolete parts and assemblies; uses hand and machine tools, precision gauges, and test instruments; and makes operational checks of repaired weapons to assure safety, accuracy, and ease of operation. Observe action of mechanical components for evidence of abnormal operations. Inspect parts and subassemblies of disassembled weapons to determine necessity for replacement or repair.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position requires the employee to drive a motor vehicle. An appropriate, valid state and military driver’s license is required and must be maintained for this position.
  • This position requires the incumbent to pass a pre-employment physical examination to meet the physical efforts requirements of this position.
  • This position is covered by the Civilian Drug Abuse Testing Program. Incumbent is required to sign a DA Form 5019-R, Condition of Employment for Certain Civilian Positions Identified as Critical Under the Drug Abuse Testing Program.
  • This position is covered by the 1996 Lautenberg Amendment to the Gun Control Act of 1968. Persons convicted of misdemeanor crime of domestic violence are not eligible for the position.

Inspect, check, repair, and adjust a variety of complete small arms units. Use of a variety of precision gauges and measuring instruments such as micrometers, gauges, or borescopes to determine when parts are worn or damaged past acceptable specifications. - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Ability to Do the Work of the Position without More Than Normal SupervisionAbility to Interpret Instructions, Specifications, etc. (Includes Blueprint Reading)Ability to Use and Maintain Tools and EquipmentKnowledge of Equipment Assembly, Installation, and Repair, etc.Technical Practices (Theoretical, Precise, Artistic)TroubleshootingUse of Measuring Instruments Physical Efforts: Incumbent frequently lifts items weighing up to 20 pounds. Objects up to 50 pounds are occasionally lifted. Work requires walking, bending, and long periods of standing. Working Conditions: Work is performed in shop, or at unit arms rooms, with occasional trips to firing ranges. Floors are concrete or steel. Exposed to excessive noise when test firing weapons; injury due to handling tools and weapons; injury due to shocks; contact with dirt, grease, dust, and fumes; and more serious injury when unloading jammed or misfired weapons, ricochet bullets or acids. Required to wear PPE such as but not limited to safety shoes, eye protection, hearing protection and gloves.
