You will serve as a ELECTRONICS TECHNICIAN in the Engineering and Planning Department (Code 200), Combat Systems Division (Code 290), Sonar and Navigation Branch (Code 294) of NORFOLK NAVAL SHIPYARD.

Duties

You will provide technical guidance for installation and testing of assigned systems required to execute complex projects. You will prepare Technical Work Documents (TWD's) for production work and tests during installation, conversions, or repair of assigned systems to assure optimum performance. You will identify requirements and requisitions all required material. You will conduct and perform pre-arrival testing to identify repairs and conduct. You will perform post-availability functional and operability tests of assigned systems to determine state of readiness and reliability following installation, repair, and alternation. You will serve as a senior technical consultant for acceptable operation and adjustment of the equipment and/or systems involved. You will act as a troubleshooter in the identification and resolution of problems encountered during installations and testing phases of waterfront production efforts.

  • This is a bargaining unit position.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.

Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of Specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Experience applying working knowledge of submarines, aircraft carriers, and surface combatant combat systems related electronic, electrical, and mechanical systems, components and support systems. Experience performing engineering functions on work assignments for ships under repair or overhaul. Experience performing component tests, system tests, assisting others performing increasingly complex tests, preparing more complex TWDs, preparing increasingly complex work summaries and preparing reports. Experience utilizing a familiarity of other related engineering fields including piping and structural design to a degree to permit technical understanding.
