A successful candidate in this position will serve as a Supervisory Transportation Management Specialist ensuring safe and secure transportation of government-owned nuclear weapons, nuclear weapons components, special nuclear material, and other sensitive cargo.
Duties
As a Supervisory Transportation management Specialist, you will:
-Directs, initiates, and implements policy, and ensures policy and/or procedural compliance in the performance of air and road
transportation of hazardous materials and cargos.
-Makes decisions and recommendations that impact a broad range of transportation operations for the Command and that may
have OST-wide application.
-Assigns personnel and material resources; directs, oversees and approves mission planning and scheduling activities; assesses
proficiency and training requirements, makes any required adjustments, and ensures completion.
-Provides the full spectrum of supervision and oversight to include hiring, training and development, promotion, recognition,
performance appraisal, and discipline, for first line supervisors as well as 50-74 Nuclear Materials Couriers, who conduct the safe
and secure transportation of government-owned nuclear weapons, nuclear weapons components, special nuclear material, and
other sensitive cargos within the continental United States; and
-Provides coordination with the Command Director, the Office of Mission Operations, federal and contractor support organizations
and cooperating federal, state, local, and foreign agencies.
Qualifications
This is a secondary position requiring prior Nuclear Materials Courier experience. If you do not possess this experience, you will not be qualified for this position. Specialized Experience (for positions above GS-5): Experience that demonstrated a knowledge of the transportation function(s) of the position to be filled.
A qualified candidate must have at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the next lower NNSA pay band or GS grade level in the Federal Service i.e., NN-02, NQ-02 or GS-12. Specialized experience for this position is defined as:
- Experience in managing, directing, initiating and implementing policies that directly support Transportation Safeguards Systems
(TSS).
- Experience managing large groups of employees and direct TSS operations.
- Experience initiating, implementing, and oversight of policy related to TSS operational conduct.
- Directing, initiating, and implementing operational and training programs relative to the TSS.

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills; and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Education
Undergraduate and Graduate Education: Major study -- accounting, business administration,
business or commercial law, commerce, economics, engineering, finance, industrial
management, statistics, traffic management, transportation, motor mechanics, or other fields
related to the position.
