This position is part of the Southwestern Indian Polytechnic Institute, Bureau of Indian Education. As a IT Specialist (Data Management) you will be responsible for providing technical and support to the college and is responsible for almost all major institutional data reporting requirements for Federal, tribal, and state government entities, and educational and commercial entities.
Duties
As a IT Specialist (Data Management) GS-2210-12, your typical work assignments may include the following under supervision:
Provide mandatory data reporting for federal, tribal, and state government entities and education and commercial entities.
Interpret data requirements from various sources, such as data dictionaries, field definitions, report definitions, and verbal communication.
Meet all reporting deadlines for Federal, tribal, and state government entities and education and commercial entities.
Interpret information technology principles, standards, and guidelines.
Conduct analysis affecting database management, application software and Student Information Systems (SIS).
Implement, coordinate and/or maintain programs, policies, and procedures designed to ensure, protect, and restore Information Technology systems, data services, and capabilities.
Develop requirements and provide customer service for Information Technology data systems.
Assist in the automation of process which may include reconciling, transforming and/or integrating data; implement data normalization and logical quality control procedures into the database(s).
System analysis to plan, design, document, develop, modify test install, implement, support, maintain, and upgrade database(s) and/or corresponding software application products.
Install, configure, troubleshoot, maintain, and provide customer service support for hardware and application software to ensure availability and functionality of systems in a networked environment.

Applicants must meet the qualification requirements contained in the OPM Standards. For this position, they are listed below.
BASIC REQUIREMENTS:
Applicants must have Information Technology (IT) related experience; the experience may be demonstrated by paid or unpaid experience and/or completion of specific, intensive training (for example, IT certification), as appropriate. Individuals must have IT-related experience demonstrating each of the four competencies listed below.
Attention to Detail - Is thorough when performing work and conscientious about attending to detail.
Customer Service - Works with clients and customers (that is, any individuals who use or receive the services or products that your work unit produces, including the general public, individuals who work in the agency, other agencies, or organizations outside the Government) to assess their needs, provide information or assistance, resolve their problems, or satisfy their expectations; knows about available products and services; is committed to providing quality products and services.

In addition to meeting the Basic Requirement, you must also meet the Specialized Experience Requirement below.
Specialized Experience for GS-7 and Above: Positions at GS-7 and above require one year of specialized experience at the next lower GS-grade (or equivalent). Specialized experience is experience that has equipped the applicant with the particular competencies/knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position and is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. Such experience is typically gained in the IT field or through the performance of work where the primary concern is IT. The employing agency is responsible for defining the specialized experience based on the requirements of the position being filled, as shown below:
GS-12: One (1) year of specialized experience at the next lower GS-11 (or equivalent). Specialized experience performing duties in a Post-Secondary Education Institution, such as: Develop and execute complex queries (from a student information system) to extract data for institution ad hoc reporting; Test and optimize the functionality of systems and data; Plan and coordinate projects that involve multiple stages in the systems development life cycle management process such as systems analysis, software development, database administration and customer support; Develop logical data models to be translated into workable physical database schema and structures in the database development process, which include data migration, backup and recovery; and Provide advice, assistance and recommended courses of action.

Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year (52 weeks) of service at the next lower grade level.
