Duties
This position is to provide inorganic analytical chemical measurements and services for the NIST Standard Reference Material (SRM) program. The major duties involve the development and implementation of high-accuracy methods of chemical analysis for inorganic species based on electrochemical methods (primarily coulometry), for pH using the Harned cell technique and other techniques, and the writing of reports of these measurements. This position includes (1) the use of sample preparation equipment and analytical instruments for the quantitative determination of chemical species and pH; (2) the maintenance of scientific laboratory infrastructure (such as performing routine maintenance on laboratory equipment); (3) the maintenance of a scientific laboratory notebook and associated electronic data records; (4) the preparation of written reports for completed measurement activities; (5) conformance within a laboratory quality management system; and (6) the performance of other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications
Basic Requirements:
A. Degree in physical sciences, life sciences, or engineering that includes 30 semester hours in chemistry, supplemented by course work in mathematics through differential and integral calculus, and at least 6 semester hours of physics.
OR
B. Combination of education and experience: Course work equivalent to a major as shown in A above, including at least 30 semester hours in chemistry, supplemented by mathematics through differential and integral calculus, and at least 6 semester hours of physics, plus appropriate experience or additional education.
IN ADDITION: To qualify, applicants must have at least one year (52 weeks) of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-9 grade level (ZP-II for NIST). Specialized experience is defined as experience in performing inorganic chemical analysis using electrochemical methods; performing pH analysis; writing laboratory reports; working under a quality management system.

Master's or equivalent graduate degree as defined in the basic requirements
OR
A combination of education and specialized experience as defined in the additional requirements.
