Duties
You will determine repairs needed and repairs, adjusts, and replace parts.
You will troubleshoot, repair, and install a variety of large commercial and industrial refrigeration and air conditioning units, large systems, and supporting equipment.
You will perform related electrical, sheet metal, and carpentry installation and fabrication tasks, and/or small motor repair.
You will be required to occasionally work outside, on top of tall buildings, in drafty attic spaces, and in cramped areas with low overheads.
You will plan testing procedures, determine the proper kind and type of parts and equipment needed and install and repair a variety of systems with little or no check during the progress of the assignment.
You will determine repairs needed and repairs, adjusts and replacement parts.
You will determine the cause of defects and malfunctions on assigned refrigeration and conditioning systems, and systems.
Requirements
- Must be a US Citizen.
- Must be determined suitable for federal employment.

- Must pass a pre-employment and annual physical.
- This position requires the employee to possess the EPA 608 Technician certification to operate assigned equipment such as the use of the extraction and recharge of refrigerants.
- You may be recalled to duty outside of normal working hours.
- This is a bargaining unit position.
- This position is subject to work an uncommon tour, including nights, weekends, and holidays to meet mission requirements. Overtime or night differential pay and/or unusual duty hours may be required.
- This position is subject to sudden temperature changes when working on equipment such as walk-in freezer Units.
- This position has exposure to repeated, prolonged or concentrated amounts of refrigerant gases may cause toxic effects to eyes, skin, and internal organs.
- You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
- This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
- You will be required to complete training, obtain, and maintain a government credit card for travel and travel-related purchases.

This job has a screen-out element which will be used to determine minimum eligibility for this job. Applicants who do not receive a minimum of two points on the screen-out element(s) will be found ineligible. The Screen-out Element for this position is: Installing, repairing, maintaining, troubleshooting, a variety of systems components such as compressors, which include gear, reciprocating, centrifugal, or rotary pump and a variety of refrigerant controls such as those with low and high pressure side floats, automatic thermostatic expansion valves, capillary or choke types, and those base on volume or quantity changes; Examining, diagnosing malfunctions and making repairs to systems that include analog and/or direct digital control (DDC) systems used in complex heating ventilation; air conditioning, and refrigeration systems; and 3. Following all guidelines and procedures pertaining to the use and handling of refrigerants in accordance with all local, state and federal regulations.
