About the Position: Red River Army Depot (RRAD) is located in northeast Texas, 19 miles west of Texarkana and approximately 170 miles northeast of Dallas. Duties

Conduct water and air pressure check of radiator to detect leaks. Utilize wire welders in performance of welding duties to weld items for the radiator. Repair fuel tank on heavy mobile tactical vehicles to ensure it functions without leaks. Test equipment after the completed repair to ensure all necessary repairs have been made. Determine the correct process required for different metals when welding or fabricating parts. Utilize an acetylene welding torch to perform brazing, soldering and welding of radiator parts. Identify issues with Radiators or Fuel Tank and making the necessary repairs to ensure it functions correctly.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Obtain and maintain a Personnel Background Investigation (NACI).
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a valid state driver’s license.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a forklift operator’s license.
  • Wears and utilizes required (PPE) safety and protective equipment and devices.
  • Must be able to pass pre-employment physical and maintain annual requirements thereafter.
  • You may be expected to travel (TDY) in this position up to 10% of the time for business purposes.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain appropriate security clearance for access to Depot Production Computer System.
  • This position has a requirement to lift up to 45 lbs. in the regular performance of duties. Heavier items are lifted with assistance of other workers or lifting devices.
  • Temporary promotion may be made or extended up to a maximum of five years and can be made permanent without further competition.
  • Temporary appointment may be extended in one year increments up to a maximum of three years but cannot be made permanent.
  • Time Limited Detail NTE may be made or extended at management discretion.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of an Metal Tank and Radiator Repairer Leader without more than normal supervision. Ability to perform COMMON Metal Tank and Radiator Repairer Leader duties, which demonstrate that I have the ability to perform a full range of specific Metal Tank and Radiator Repairer duties which include: disassembling, replacing, modifying, assembling and testing a wide variety of water and oil radiators, after coolers and fuel tanks used on heavy mobile, tactical or general purpose vehicles. Utilizing an acetylene welding torch, and wire welders in order to weld, braze and solder vehicle parts. Fabricate parts as needed in the repair of equipment of items such as gaskets, hangers, hoses and connections. Test radiator and fuel tanks for compliance before release. I have the ability to lead or supervise employees in the performance of Metal Tank and Radiator Repairer worker duties.- Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Ability to Interpret Instructions, Specification, etc. (includes blueprint reading)Ability To Lead or SuperviseAbility to Use Hand Tools, Power Tools, etc., for Metal WorkDexterity (Assembly Disassembly Reassembly etc)Knowledge of Equipment, Structure, Materials, etc. (includes constructing repair, and forging)Layout and Pattern Development (includes Geometric Projection and Triangulation) PHYSICAL EFFORT: Frequent lifting of items weighing 45 pounds is required. Heavier items are lifted with assistance of other workers or lifting devices. Duties require incumbent to stoop, bend and stand on concrete or wooden floors for extended periods of time. WORKING CONDITIONS: Predominately duties are performed inside shop building and occasionally outside of building. Incumbent is exposed to dust, heat, fumes and frequently to high noise levels. Wears and utilizes required safety and protective equipment and devices.
