This Supervisory DRT (CT scan) position is assigned to the James A Haley VA Healthcare System, Imaging Service; Computed Tomography section within the James A Haley VA Medical Center, Tampa, FL. The Supervisor leads team members in varying assignments including special and complex CT examinations and procedures within the Computed Tomography section, with and without the use of contrast materials, 100% of the time, and is accountable to the Chief Technologist.

Duties

The Supervisor has a complete and thorough working knowledge of all functions under his/her purview and can direct and/or operate all the diagnostic specialties to assure its many activities and to provide efficient patient care. The supervisory area of responsibility encompasses Computed Tomography section of Diagnostic Imaging Service. The incumbent is given general guidelines and directions from the Chief Technologist and Imaging Administrator and is expected to function with initiative and independent judgment in his or her sphere of responsibilities.The incumbent will formulate plans, delegate authority and follow-up on delegated tasks to assure effectiveness of assignments given to subordinate Lead and staff technologists. Assigns work and employees based on the difficulties of assignments and the capability of the employee. Assigns, directs and reviews work in progress, or upon completion, to ascertain problems and takes required corrective action. The incumbent is required to provide instruction and solutions to difficult problems that arise in the section(s). The incumbent must be able to give guidance in expeditious flow of productivity in all section(s). The incumbent's principal role is performing the Annual Performance Appraisals for the assigned technical staff. Incumbent will monitor and evaluate Lead technologist(s) and subordinate employee's performance. The incumbent assures that the CT section has appropriate coverage in their section. Approves/disapproves all overtime and leave requests, ensuring proper coverage for the assigned section is available. Oversees established holiday assignment roster, and assures coverage in each section is properly assigned. Incumbent will prepare meeting agendas, in­-service presentations and hold monthly meetings with staff to communicate changes and expectations for each section under their supervision. The incumbent develops tours of duty and assigns tours for his/her section(s), encompassing all leave requests, FMLA, and Workman's Comp. The incumbent serves on all merit promotion boards and makes recommendations to the Chief Technologist, Imaging Administrator and Chief of Radiology for employee's reassignments, awards and disciplinary actions. Qualifications

BASIC REQUIREMENTS Citizenship. Be a citizen of the United States. (Non-citizens may be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified candidates in accordance with VA Handbook 5005, Part II, chapter 3,section A, paragraph 3g.) Certification. All applicants must be certified in general radiologic technology by the American Registry of Radiologic Technology, Radiography (ARRT) (R). Advanced ARRT certification is required for assignments that include computed tomography (CT), Advanced certification indicates that the incumbent [can operate independently] and has demonstrated specific clinical competency in the appropriate specialty and taken and passed the designated examination. In modalities that require advanced certification, to support their continued development, technologists who do not possess an advanced certification may be provided on the job training with oversight from a certified radiologic technologist. Education. Completion of a full-time training course of at least 24 months in duration (or the equivalent) in a post-high school diagnostic radiologic technology program, evidenced by a certificate or an associate degree, accredited by the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT) or from [other accrediting agencies as recognized by the Department of Education (DOE). Physical Requirements. The work requires long periods of standing and walking. There is some bending, lifting, and carrying of light items such as CR fil cassettes. There is occasional moderate exertion such as lifting multi-exposure film cassettes or assisting other technicians in lifting and positioning patients. Heavy lifting of totally incapacitated patients is done only with the help of other employees. English Language Proficiency. DRTs must be proficient in spoken and written English as required by 38 U.S.C. 7402(d), and 7407(d). GRADE REQUIREMENTS Creditable Experience Knowledge of Current Radiologic Technology Practice. To be creditable, experience must have demonstrated possession of the knowledge, skills, abilities, and other characteristics (also referred to as clinical competencies) associated with current radiologic technology practice. This may have been evidenced by the equivalent of one year of active practice, which is paid or nonpaid employment as a DRT as defined by ARRT. Quality of Experience. Experience is only creditable if it was earned after completion of the basic certification requirements identified in paragraph 2b above. Experience as a graduate DRT is creditable provided the candidate functioned as a DRT and subsequently passed the certification examination. Part-Time Experience. Part-time experience as a DRT is creditable according to its relationship to the full-time workweek. For example, a DRT would receive one week of full- time credit for each two weeks of half-time work. GRADE DETERMINATIONS GS-11-Experience. At least one year of experience equivalent to the next lower grade level directly related to the position being filled that demonstrates the clinical competencies needed to provide services as a quality control technologist, DRT team leader, supervisory radiologic technologist,[PACS technologist, clinical program director], or an assistant chief radiologic technologist. Experience. At least 1 year of experience equivalent to the next lower grade level directly related to the position being filled that demonstrates the clinical competencies needed to provide services as a quality control technologist, DRT team leader, supervisory radiologic technologist, or an assistant chief radiologic technologist. Demonstrated, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: The candidate must demonstrate the following technical KSAs and demonstrate the potential to acquire the assignment-specific KSAs designated by an asterisk(*): *Ability to develop and initiate new imaging services that apply current research findings. Ability to participate as an instructor in the facility's in-service clinical training findings. Ability to interview and evaluate candidates for positions in the section and recommend appointments, advancements, or, when appropriate, disciplinary actions. Ability to evaluate performance, identify continuing education and training needs, etc. *Ability to analyze organizational, technical, and administrative problems and to develop and implement solutions that result in efficient section operation. Skill in participating in organizational facility initiatives, workgroups, and/or committees. vii. Ability to draft and/or recommend organizational policies and/or directives.
