This position is part of the Organization of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. The incumbent will be responsible for conducting tasks within the Global Posture, Strategy, and Plans (GPSP) Branch, and producing timely analyses within a group of senior military and civilian personnel.
Duties
As a STRATEGIC ANALYST (SERVICE PLANNER) at the GS-0301-14 some of your typical work assignments may include:
Assist Cross-Functional Teams leads in the management of Global Campaign Plans and provide DJ8 perspectives and equities for Coordinating Authority Assessments.Serve as a subject matter expert (SME) on the strategic planning process, and the senior-most strategic guidance documents (e.g. National Defense Strategy, Defense Planning Guidance, Unified Command Plan, Joint Strategic Campaign Plan, Joint Planning and Execution Community/Plans and Assessments).
Support and conduct review(s) of global campaign plans assessments and provides recommendations on risk, risk mitigation, mission area assessment and strategic opportunities for J-8 senior leader decision making in determining strategic priorities.
Evaluate alternative strategies for solving daily analytic issues to include both technical and non-technical solutions in a cost-effective manner.
Brief operational assessment results to senior leadership, including the Secretary of Defense, if required.

Qualifications
You may qualify at the GS-14, if you fulfill the following qualifications:
One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-13 grade level in the Federal service:
Managing, organizing, and advising the Directorate of an organization on issues related to global strategy, plans, posture, force structure and integration with the National Defense Strategy and National Military Strategy;
Supporting the development, planning and preparation of writing and presenting dense, complicated, and concise analytical material, related to issues of DoD strategy;
Representative for program and budget review.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
Education
Substitution of education may not be used in lieu of specialized experience for this grade level.
