About the Position: This position is located within Tripler Army Medical Center (TAMC) in the Department of Surgery, Honolulu, Hawaii. Tripler Army Medical Center is a tobacco-free workplace. Tobacco products include, but are not limited to, smoking, smokeless tobacco, and electronic nicotine delivery devices.

Duties

Clean, decontaminate, and sterilize medical supplies and equipment used in all areas of the hospital. Distribute medical supplies and equipment to medical personnel. Disassemble and reassemble equipment for thorough decontamination. Test quality of all equipment used in the cleaning and sterilization of surgical instruments.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
  • This position is subject to a pre-employment drug screening, and random testing thereafter, to include testing based on reasonable suspicion and testing due to direct involvement with an on-duty accident.
  • This position is designated "Mission Essential". In the event of severe weather conditions or other such emergency type situations, the incumbent is required to report to work or remain at work as scheduled to support mission operations.
  • This position has a requirement to lift up to 45 lbs. in the regular performance of duties.
  • Appointment to this position is subject to a one year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315. While probationary the incumbent can be terminated with limited appeal rights.
  • This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 5% of the time.
  • This position requires shift work to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays, or special situations. Employee shifts are rotated on a regularly scheduled basis.
  • This position requires the employee to use personal protective equipment provided by the employer.
  • This position has a mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirement and is subject to annual vaccination.
  • The incumbent must possess license/certification for a certified surgical technician (CST).
  • This position requires license/certification as a Tech in Surgery-Certified (TS-C).
  • This position requires the incumbent to possess a license/certification for Certified Operating Room and Surgical Technician (CORST).

Qualifications

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes; 1) Sterilize medical supplies/equipment for use in a hospital; 2) troubleshoot sterilizing equipment and machines; 3) Inspecting medical supplies for defects, 4) Maintain medical inventory to ensure daily operations. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06).
