About the Position: Range Inspector responsible for safe and coordinated use of the Fort Liberty and Camp MacKall training areas.
Duties
Assist with range operations on use of ranges, training facilities, and maneuver areas for live fire, non-firing, and maneuver training.
Monitor the issuance, opening, check fire, cease fire, and closing of all training areas through operation/communications via multiple radio nets.
Inspect and enforces safe weapons firing and handling, ammunition handling and accountability, safe troop movement, tactical training safety, target emplacement, and environmental compliance.
Advise unit personnel on the capabilities and limitations of known distance ranges and training areas along with other non-live fire facilities.
Achieve mission accomplishment through working with and coordination with military personnel and civilians, including Reserve and NGB Component persons performing annual training.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Incumbent must possess and maintain a valid driver's license.
- Incumbent must obtain and maintain a U.S. Government motor vehicle operator's identification card (OF 346) within 30 days after hire.
- Incumbent must obtain and maintain equipment operator's qualification record (DA 348) within 30 days after hire.
- Incumbent is subject to an irregular tour of duty to cover 24 hour-a-day (must be able to work on rotating shifts), 7 days per week operation, to include holidays. Overtime may be required.
- Incumbent must successfully complete Accident-Avoidance training; receive and maintain card with issue/renewal dates within 30 days after hire.
- Successful completion of initial U.S, Government Vehicle training to include use of emergency lights, 4x4 operation, situational vehicle operations provided by U.S. Army within 30 days after hire and complete semi-annual vehicle refresher training.
- Position requires a pre-employment physical and annual physical thereafter. (Must have normal depth perception and color vision. Must be able to lift up to 45lbs.)
- Appointment to this position is subject to a one-year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315. While probationary the incumbent can be terminated with limited appeal rights.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes conducting site inspections of the range and training area complexes; performing physical security checks of the facilities ensuring compliance of safety procedures; providing support to unit training staff on operations of the ranges and coordinating the use of live fire facilities; experience maintaining data and generating reports for quality control. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06).
