Job opening: NON DESTRUCTIVE TEST INSPECTOR (NTI)

You will serve as a Nondestructive Test Inspector in the NDT Production Support Branch, Nondestructive Test and Nonnuclear Inspection Division, Code 135.3 Quality Assurance Office of NORFOLK NAVAL SHIPYARD.
Duties
You will be responsible for acquiring and recording test results and data using enhanced signal processing and acquisition software on state of the art computer-based platforms.
You will be responsible for performing calibration and safety checks of test equipment prior to and after performance of NDT inspections.
You will be responsible for following prescribed radiation safety requirements in accordance with Nuclear Regulatory Commission while conducting radiography and ensures that other personnel observe all safety rules and regulations.
You will be responsible for performing eddy current inspections using bobbin probs to inspect main, auxiliary, and air ejector condenser tubes, reboiler, and other heat exchanger tubing on both nuclear and nonnuclear vessels.
You will be responsible for conducting liquid penetrant inspections to detect surface discontinuities in both ferrous and nonferrous materials and welds using both visible and fluorescent dyes.

- Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if you fail to report to the drug test appointment or fail the test. You will be subject to random testing.
- This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
- You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
- Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals). You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs.

Applying a comprehensive knowledge of component geometrics, material compositions, potential reflector types, signal characteristics, etc., for the correct interpretation of test results.
Interpreting and comprehending diagrams, blueprints, specifications, and interrelated procedure and technical requirements.
Providing direction and resolution to shop supervisors, ship's force, and design personnel to identify and correct reject conditions.
