You will serve as a Nondestructive Test Inspector in the Radiography Operations Branch (135.3), Nondestructive Test and Nonnuclear Inspection Division, Quality Assurance Office of NORFOLK NAVAL SHIPYARD.
Duties
You will review completed work for adherence to inspection policy and program objectives.
You will provide direction and resolutions to shop supervisors, ships' force and design personnel.
You will ensure material, processes and fabrication techniques meet specification and contractual requirements.
You will operate complex NDT equipment such as densitometers, optical comparators, and x-ray film processors.
You will utilize knowledge of advanced mathematics including algebra, geometry and trigonometry to complete assigned tasks.
You will interpret and comprehend diagrams, blueprints, specifications and interrelated procedure and technique requirements to meet critical job applications.

- You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
- Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals). You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs.
- This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
- You will be required to lift and/or carry up to 50 pounds in weight.
- You will be required to distinguish between colors and shades of colors.

Performing nondestructive testing and analysis on mechanical components, piping systems, and structural assemblies;
Inspecting nuclear reactor plant components;
Using ultrasonic testing (UT), X-Ray and Isotope (Gamma) Radiographic Testing (RT), and Eddy Current Heat Exchanger Tubing Testing (ET) inspection methods.
Performing surface inspections using liquid penetrant testing (PT), and magnetic particle testing (MT) inspection methods;
Interpreting and evaluating test results by discriminating electromagnetic signatures, waveforms, digital images, and the density of processed film;
Performing calibration and safety checks of test equipment prior to and after performance of inspections;
Ensuring radioisotopes are safely handled;
Performing eddy current inspections using bobbin probes;
Monitoring and controlling the radiography areas to ensure total workforce safety.
