About the Position: About the Position: This position is located with the DES, Police/Provost Marshal Division on Fort Campbell, KY. Fort Campbell lies on the Kentucky/Tennessee border between Hopkinsville, KY & Clarksville, TN about 45 miles NW of Nashville.
Duties
Collects and preserves evidence, conducts long and short-term investigations on criminal cases.
Provides sworn testimony based on the investigative process, evidence gathered, witness statements in criminal and traffic courts.
Responds to radio calls or reports situations that are general assistance.
Takes required actions to resolve various incidents and requests additional support where necessary.
Employs National Incident Management System (NIMS) and Incident Command System (ICS) protocols to establish command and control, develop a course of action to contain, mitigate, and recover from the incident.
Conducts traffic law enforcement patrol using specialized equipment such as radar, Lidar and breathalyzer.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Incumbent must be able to successfully pass training, certification and qualification requirements related to law enforcement work functions as prescribed by policy, regulations or statutes.
- These include, but not limited to: weapons qualifications, first aid/CPR and National Incident Management System (NIMS) training requirements.
- Incumbent must meet the requirements of AR 190-56.
- This is a Testing Designated Position (TDP) and is covered by the Alcohol and Drug Abuse Prevention and Control Program. IAW AR 600-85, a DA 5019R Condition of Employment must be signed for mandatory drug testing.
- The 1996 Lautenberg Amendment to the Gun Control Act of 1968 covers this position. Persons convicted of a misdemeanor or felony crime of domestic violence are not eligible for this position.
- Incumbent is subject to removal from the position if convicted of a felony in accordance with Section 639 of P.L. 106-554 effective January 20, 2001.
- Incumbent in this position is designated as Mission Essential (IAW DODI 3024.42 and DTM 17-004) position during Inclement Weather Conditions or other designed/identified emergency conditions.
- In the event of a crisis situation or inclement weather, the incumbent must continue to perform the duties until relieved by proper authority.
- Incumbent must possess a valid state drivers license and be able to obtain and maintain a government motor vehicle operator license.
- Incumbent must be able to obtain and maintain a valid Tier 3 (Secret) security investigation.
- Hours of work is subject to irregular and/or rotating shifts, evenings, nights, weekends and holidays. Incumbent is required to work overtime as directed and is subject to recall for emergency overtime.
- Incumbent is subject to possible civil and criminal action due to improper exercises of authority or injudicious use of force in the apprehension or detention of individuals.
- Incumbents hired at the GS-06 level must attend and successfully graduate the United States Army Civilian Police Academy prior to assignment of duties, IAW AR 190-56.
- Incumbents hired at the GS-07 level must have successfully graduated from the United States Army Civilian Police Academy; unless incumbent has an approved waiver/exception from the Office of the Provost Marshal General, IAW AR 190-56.
- This position requires a Pre-employment physical. This position requires the ability to lift approximately 45 lbs.
- This position is subject to a one year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). Specialized Experience: GS-06: One year of specialized experience which includes: 1) Responding to calls or alarms involving crimes in progress AND 2) Performing traffic patrol duties to include enforcing speed limits, directs traffic, issuing traffic citations. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05).
Specialized Experience: GS-07: One year of specialized experience which includes: 1) Responding to calls involving crimes ranging from simple violations to felonies; 2) Preparing law enforcement related reports and forms including statements, accident, patrol or field investigation reports, etc., AND 3) Observing and reporting traffic safety hazards. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06).
