About the Position: This position operates truck tractors with semi-trailers or full trailers or buses transporting cargo or passengers safely to the intended destinations. This is a Bargaining Unit position AR3135.

Duties

Operate gasoline or diesel-powered trucks or truck tractors with trailer or semi-trailer with air brakes to transport passengers, supplies, materials, or equipment and tools or to tow equipment throughout rural or urban areas. Maneuver vehicles in heavy traffic and in close tolerances on interstate highways, winding roads and steep grades while manipulating the dual braking system to prevent the semi-trailer from jackknifing. Receive, stow, issue, and re-warehouse all types of ammunition and ammunition components Operate electric, diesel, or gasoline-powered forklifts capable of lifting up to 10,000 pounds in loading and unloading explosives and inert material into and out of railcars, trucks, and loading docks.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position requires you to possess and maintain a Commercial Driver’s License Class A with a Hazardous Material endorsement.
  • This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
  • The position duties meet the criteria for compliance with Federal and Department of the Army Drug Free Workplace Programs. Detection of the presence of drugs is warranted. This position is subject to pre-employment screening and random testing.
  • This position is subject to the provisions of the Domestic Violence Offender Gun Ban known as the Lautenberg Amendment. This act bans individuals convicted of misdemeanor domestic violence from possession or access to firearms or ammunition.
  • This position requires an Arms, Ammunition and Explosives Security Certification/Screening in accordance AR 190-11.

Must possess the ability to perform common tasks including vehicles and equipment such as trucks or truck tractors with trailer or semi-trailer; have a basic understanding on how to maneuver such vehicles when driving and backing in narrow or congested areas, between buildings and when positioning vehicles at loading docks and/or public roads and highways; have the basic understanding of how to load and unload cargo and can operate a forklift that is capable of lifting up to 10,000 pounds; perform operator maintenance on equipment and vehicles to ensure safe operation and work under supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who reviews work for completion. - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Ability to Drive Safely (Motor Vehicles) and Ability to Operate Safely (Non-Motor Vehicle)Ability To Interpret Instructions, Specifications, etc. (related to mobile equipment operation)Ability to perform Motor Vehicle Operator duties w/o more than normal supervisionOperation of Motor VehiclesWork Practices (includes keeping things neat, clean, and in order) Physical Efforts: You must be capable of moderate to heavy physical effort to load and unload items by hand and to operate hand and foot controls on vehicles and equipment. Working Conditions: This position requires work to be performedinside and outside in all types of traffic and weather and occasionally being exposed to bad weather conditions while loading and unloading vehicles. Additionally, you are exposed to the possibility of serious accidents.
