This position is located at the Gym and Fitness Center, which is part of the Morale, Welfare and Recreation Department aboard Naval Air Station, Jacksonville, Florida. This activity is maintained and operated as a service for all active duty, retired military and their dependents. Incumbent uses initiative in completing daily/routine assignments and receives general guidance and supervision from Fitness Coordinator.

Duties

The employee will perform basic fitness orientation, identify and correct unsafe fitness techniques, supervise intramural sporting events, clean and maintain facility and equipment, and perform administrative duties as needed. Greet customers and check IDs to ensure only authorized patrons utilize the facility. Ensure customers are aware of all regulations and rules and are followed while utilizing the facility. Sell products from pro shop area and ensure that funds are properly entered into the point of sale system. Prepare Daily Activity Report and deposit money for accounting. Perform general housekeeping duties such as ensuring entry area is neat and clean at all times. May assist in cleaning restrooms, policing grounds, sweeping, mopping and emptying trash receptacles in facility. Perform other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Must meet Federal Employment suitability requirements and successful completion of background investigation. Background investigations are conducted using fingerprint identification and completion of background inquiry forms.
  • Must successfully pass the E-verify employment verification check. Any discrepancies must be resolved as a condition of employment.
  • You must go through a Personal Identity Verification (PIV) process that requires two forms of identification from the Form I-9.
  • May be required to pass pre-employment examinations.
  • Must provide proof of U.S. Citizenship or U.S. National.
  • A valid State driver's license is required to operate motor vehicles.
  • Must have your salary sent to a financial institution of your choice by Direct Deposit/Electronic Funds Transfer.
  • Must reside within 50 miles of 32212.

Qualifications

Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 2 or more years of experience working as an assistant in a gym setting and prior MWR experience preferred. Ability to operate a computerized point of sale system and provide proper change. Documented cash handling experience. Ability to meet and deal effectively with a variety of patrons of varied rates, ranks and backgrounds. Ability to multi-task; during peak hours of operations the incumbent must be able to effectively assist many patrons at the same time. Ability to exercise good judgment in applying well established policies and procedures. Within 90 days of appointment, must possess and maintain a current CPR and AED Certification along with Navy Basic Fitness Certification. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. Education

This position does not have a positive education requirement, however at least High School Diploma is preferred.
