The Primary Purpose of this Position is: To serve as the coordinator for General Internal Medicine's, (GIM), primary care ambulatory resident's clinic; and to serve as supervisor of the Advanced Medical Support Assistants in Health Administration Service. Staff supervised by this position includes two GS-7 Lead MSAs and 13 GS-6 Advanced MSAs.
The Organizational Location of this Position is: Health Administration Service, VA North Texas Health Care System.
Duties
Duties include but are not limited to:
Plans, organizes, and directs the activities of the GIM primary care ambulatory resident's clinic ensuring that the section complies with legal and regulatory requirements and meets customer needs. The coordinator for the GIM primary care ambulatory resident's clinic serves as the coordinator, administrator, and analyst for the delivery of health care services by post graduate house staff in the Internal Medicine Residency program within the General Internal Medicine Section of the Medical Service. The position requires administrative awareness and expertise to facilitate the interaction of all departments and services within UT Southwestern and the Dallas V AMC for the delivery of health care by residents. She/he acts as the liaison between these services and represents the Section Chief of General Internal Medicine and/or Prime clinic #3 director in all administrative matters.
The incumbent organizes and administers the day-to-day workings of the primary care clinic #3. In addition, she/he provides counsel to the Chief of General Internal Medicine on proposed solutions that would enhance qualify patient care and resource utilization in Clinic #3. The incumbent assists in the organization and evaluation of the function and activities of Clinic #3 using various management and leadership skills. He/she conducts special analytical studies to improve efficiency and quality of care delivered in Clinic #3 and aids the Chief of the Section in resolving critical programmatic, organizational or functional problems in Clinic #3 including but . not limited to inter-departmental and inter-institutional problems, complaints, and grievances by applying important communication, motivational, and leadership skills with respect to advising, instructing, and consulting with the problem elements.

Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-09 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-07. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade.

You may qualify based on your experience and/or education as described below:
Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-07 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: Advises and provides counsel regarding policies, procedures, and directives of management; Organizes and administers the day-to-day workings of the Specialty Care Clinics; Aids in identification of problem areas and recommends ways to improve these areas within the clinic; Interprets customer's inquiries and resolves discrepancies; and Coordinates trainings and ensures compliance. Education: Applicants may substitute education for the required experience. To qualify based on education for this grade level you must have a master's or equivalent graduate degree; or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree; or LL.B. or J.D., if related. OR,
Combination: Applicants may also combine education and experience to qualify at this level. You must have a combination of specialized experience and one year of education beyond a Master's degree.

Physical Requirements:
The work is sedentary. Some work may require movement between offices, hospitals, warehouses, and similar areas for meetings and to conduct work. Work may also require walking/standing, in conjunctions with travel to and attendance at meetings and/or conferences away from the work site. Incumbent may carry and lift light items weighing less than 15 pounds.
