About the Position: This position is with Headquarters (HQs), US Army Corps of Engineers, 249th ENG BN, US Army Prime Power School, Fort Leonard Wood, MO 22060. Fort Leonard Wood is centrally located in MO and about a two hour drive southwest of St. Louis. Fort Leonard Wood is the home of the Engineer School, Chemical School and Military Police School. This position will be filled on a permanent basis.

Duties

Performs technical instruction/training development projects as a subject matter expert in the mechanical and diesel engineer subject areas for the Mechanical Training Section of the Specialty Training Branch. Instructs military students in areas of diesel engine theory of operation, engine auxiliary systems, allied skills, heat exchangers, welding techniques and practices, engine rebuild, and maintenance practices. Meets developmental Instructor Certification Program, and performs instruction in classroom/laboratory setting. Performs training administration; lesson plans and criteria sheet development, programs of instruction (POIs), and student examinations. Provides on the job training to assistant instructors, closely monitoring performance in the classroom, and evaluating student performance through the use of graded examinations and practical exercises. Serves as primary instructor; develops instruction and mechanical technology covering a wide range of concepts, principles, and practices in such subject areas as mechanical theory, practice welding, piping systems, and diesel engines.

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position requires a pre-employment and annual physical examination.
  • This position requires incumbent to obtain and maintain certification on Electromotive Division (EMD), Mobile Electric Power (MEP) 012/208 and MEP 810 Power Generating Equipment.

Performs technical research to ensure instructional content is in accordance with military doctrine and new industry technologies. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-09). OR Education: Ph.D or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree with a major study in education or a subject area related to the position to be filled.ORCombination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the second year (total graduate semester hours minus 36) by 18. Add the two percentages. You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Curriculum DevelopmentEducation / Training Program AdministrationLearning and Program Evaluation Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-09).
