About the Position: This position is with the North Atlantic Division (NAD) Offices located at Fort Hamilton in Brooklyn, New York. As the Chief of Staff for the North Atlantic Division (NAD) you will direct the administrative operations of the Division Headquarters and staff elements.
Duties
Serves as consultant and advisor to the Commander, Deputy Commander, SES members and Command Sergeant Major in all areas of Division management including participation in the development and direction of policies, programs, and operations.
Performs special assignments for the Commander including investigations to establish facts, studies of operating problems, and other similar matters.
Reviews work of subordinates for adequacy and compliance with instructions and policy.
Exercises professional judgment, initiative, and executive leadership in directing and coordinating all administrative and non-technical managerial aspects of the organization.
Resolves complaints and disciplinary problems.
Furnishes executive level advice and assistance to the Division Commander, Deputy Commander, Command Sergeant Major and senior Division leadership on a variety of issues involving regional interests.
Consults with and advises district offices in matters requiring intergovernmental and interagency coordination.
Maintains contact with Congressional Members and their senior staffs.
Arranges conferences for the Commander with U.S. Congressional Delegates, Governors, and officials of state agencies concerned with military programs and water and related land resources.
Manages and performs quality control on the Commander’s calendar to ensure it meets the Commander’s intent and style of doing business.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position requires a Financial Disclosure Statement OGE Form 450 to avoid conflicts between duties and financial interest. This position requires pre-employment financial disclosure and annually thereafter.
- This position meets the criteria for compliance with Federal and Department of the Army Drug Free Workplace Programs. This position is subject to a pre-employment screening, and random testing thereafter.
- This position requires you to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Top Secret security clearance for the duration of employment. A review of your driving record, credit history, criminal history, and military service are required.
- Appointment to this position is subject to a one year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements.
- This position is supervisory as defined by the Office of Personnel Management's (OPM) General Schedule Supervisory Guide (GSSG). A one year probation to assess your ability to perform supervisory duties is required unless previously completed.
- This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 10% of the time.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes: 1) Providing a comprehensive range of direct executive level office support, (i.e. extensive scheduling and meeting/appointment coordination, reviewing packets for proper preparation, tracking and monitoring of ongoing projects and initiatives); 2) Editing correspondence on the behalf of a Director or senior level executive; 3) Managing implementation of change efforts related to policies that effect agency-wide programs; and 4) Briefing senior leaders/managers on reference materials (e.g., directives, policy, reports, technical or legislative documents) for discussion in decision meetings. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-14).
