You will serve as a Wood Crafter Leader in the Production Department of PSNS and IMF.

Duties

You will select, cut, turn, shape, join, bond, fit, assemble, and decorate wooden materials and parts, using the full range of hand and power woodworking tools, machines, and techniques. You will mentor others in using all of the tools, equipment and materials of the trade properly and safely. You will instruct mechanics on proper methods and procedures to be used to accomplish the work. Instruction is conducted in training mockups and on the job. You will accomplish routine inspection of work in progress and audits completed work for compliance with appropriate work procedures. You will compute, check, and insure the consistency of the dimensions of a number of interlocking parts. You will plan and lay out work from specifications, blueprints, sketches, and oral instructions. You will set up and operate all woodworking and mill machinery and equipment and to interpret and apply all blueprints, written directives and other guidelines of the trade. You will interpret and check plans, blueprints, and sketches; visualize the item to be made; compute, check, and ensure the consistency of the dimensions of a number of interlocking parts and make templates and patterns. You will use a wide range of woodworking machining techniques to set up, adapt, and use appropriate machines, tools, and accessories to accomplish projects like those described above. You will select appropriate combinations of materials, machines, accessories, processes, and techniques. You will plan and arrange for proper and safe operations, ensuring that materials, tools and component parts are safe as well as proper for the work. You will take into consideration the tooling, durability, cost, strength, and appearance characteristics of a variety of softwoods, hardwoods, plywood, veneers, and wood substitutes when planning and completing his projects.

• You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
• Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals). You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs.
• This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
