About the Position: Serves as a Human Resources Assistant with the Directorate of Human Resources, Redstone Arsenal, Alabama.
This is a developmental position being advertised at the GS-04, GS-05, and the Full Performance grade level, GS-06. Management may select at any grade level.
Duties
Perform personnel and administrative support for civilian and military personnel.
Serve as point of contact for all matters relating to entitlements and the issuance of identification cards.
Input and retrieve data from automated human resources systems, such as the Real Time Automated Personnel Identification Data System (RAPIDS).
Perform a variety of tasks involving the issuance of Identification Cards, such as Common Access Cards.
**The duties listed above are described at the full performance level of the position; GS-06. The duties performed at the GS-04 and GS-05 are similar to those of the target grade, but developmental in nature, leading to full performance. **
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Incumbent is required to travel away from the duty station (TDY) up to 10% of the time.
- Appointment to this position is subject to a one-year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315. While probationary the incumbent can be terminated with limited appeal rights.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. GS-04:
General Experience: One year of general experience. General experience is progressively responsible clerical, office, or other work that indicates ability to acquire the particular knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties of the position to be filled, such as: 1) Performing a variety of administrative support duties; 2) Answering customer inquiries; and 3) Preparing correspondence, and/or records management.

Education: Two years of education above the high school level obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university.

Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of by 60. Add the two percentages.
GS-05:
Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes: 1) Using a computer and software or systems to input/update information and prepare a variety of administrative documents/reports, and 2) compiling/reviewing information to assemble or maintain personnel records/packets. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the Federal service (GS-04).

Education: Four years of education above the high school level obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university.

Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of education beyond two years (total semester hours minus 60) by 60. Add the two percentages.
GS-06:
Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes: 1) Processing personnel actions using automated personnel data systems; 2) verifying/reviewing information on personnel forms/records for accuracy, and 3) generating documents for completion of personnel actions. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the Federal service (GS-05).
Some Federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For the GS-06 grade level, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
In addition to the above, all applicants (for all grade levels) must also meet the proficiency requirements below:
Proficiency Required:This position requires a qualified typist. A qualified typist can type 40 words per minute based on a 5-minute sample with three or fewer errors.
Education
