Located in the office of the Deputy Commissioner Transformation & Modernization, the Senior Policy Advisor will provide advice on a range of issues related to the Bureau's mission and programs, including promoting Fiscal Service's leadership role in guiding the govt-wide financial management community in achieving the 10-year financial management vision.
Duties
As a Senior Policy Advisor (Chief of Staff), you will:
- Serve as a key senior advisor, providing sound expert level advice, guidance, and support to the Commissioner, Deputy Commissioners, senior management within the program offices, and internal and external stakeholders on critical matters pertaining to the management policies, priorities, and program direction of the Bureau.
- Plan, initiate, and conduct complex and high-priority studies and assignments at the direction of the Commissioner and the Deputy Commissioner (Transformation & Modernization) involving extensive research, fact-finding, and program improvements on a variety of high-level and emerging subjects of direct and critical importance to the Bureau and the Department.
- Coordinate efforts with internal and external stakeholders in the development of policies and procedures needed to achieve the 10-year financial management vision.
- Summarize findings and research in written products of various types, including tables, charts, short summaries, memoranda, issue papers, briefing materials, testimony, and comprehensive reports.
Qualifications

The experience may have been gained in either the public, private sector or volunteer service. One year of experience refers to full-time work; part-time work is considered on a prorated basis. Specialized Experience: For the GS-15, you must have one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-14 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience for this position is defined as:
- Leading complex initiatives/projects with high risk, high interest, or mission-critical projects that have multiple stakeholders, including team members from multiple organizations; AND
- Experience with strategic planning across an enterprise or multi-stakeholder organization; AND
- Developing enterprise level policy and process guidance and representing that to senior executives; AND
- Leading briefings and providing guidance and recommendations that are designed to direct and influence senior executives and key stakeholders.
In addition to the above requirements, you must meet the following time-in-grade requirement, if applicable:
For the GS-15, you must have been at the GS-14 level for 52 weeks.
