About the Position: Carlisle Barracks is an installation at the center of the Army and Department of Defense Senior Leadership educational programs. This historic post supports missions such as the U.S. Army War College (USAWC), (including the Center for Strategic Leadership, Strategic Studies Institute and USAWC Press, U.S. Army Heritage and Education Center), and Department of Health Agency, Peacekeeping and Stability Operations Institute, and the Installation Management Command.
Duties
Manage distinguished visitor itineraries and major events for the USAWC
Provide appropriate protocol support for a variety of USAWC sponsored activities
Ensure distinguished visitors are treated with proper social courtesy and cultural amenities
Assist in arrangement of social functions, to include selection of invitees, agenda, menu and catering contracts
Support and contribute to the planning of large-scale visits, and events on behalf of the USAWC
Act as liaison to USAWC leadership with conference planners on facilitating key conference and event information
Provide advice to both military and civilian agencies on matters of protocol
Prepare and maintain the Distinguished Visitor Database and Hosting Reports
Select appropriate gifts for distinguished visitors to be presented by Command officials
Serve as primary or alternate Official Representational Funds Credit Card Holder
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Must be able to lift up to 25 lbs.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a SECRET security clearance.
- This is an obligated position. An obligated position is one to which an employee has statutory restoration rights or entitlement based on active military service, recovery from a compensable injury, or return rights based on an overseas tour.

This is a TERM not to exceed 24 months position with the option to be extended up to 8 years at the discretion of the agency. At the discretion of the agency, this position may be converted to career-conditional or career after 2 years in the competitive service

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. To qualify based on your experience, your resume must describe at least one year of specialized experience which prepared you to do the work in this job. Specialized experience is defined as: 1) planning and coordinating official visits such as dignitaries and high ranking officials; 2) providing advice on inquiries related to protocol functions; 3) assisting with protocol programs, missions and functions. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the Federal service (GS-06) or equivalent pay band.
