You will serve as a Rigging Worker in the NAVSUP FLT LOGISTICS CNTR PEARL HARBOR.

Duties

You will select and install rigging equipment, direct the removal and placement of heavy loads, where knowledgeable judgements are required in regards to weight estimates and safe working loads, center of gravity determination, and clearance factors. You will determine the work sequences to be followed, and the tools, materials, and equipment to be used. You will advise the crane operator of clearances between the load and other objects, and of other possible hazardous conditions observed from ground level. You will check ropes, cables, and equipment before beginning the work, and obtain replacements for those which are badly worn or damaged. You will demonstrate the knowledge in planning for clearance and safety factors, selecting and installation of the proper type and size of rigging gear required to support loads safely, bracing and cushioning loads as necessary to prevent damage.

  • You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.

  • Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if you fail to report to the drug test appointment or pass the test. You will be subject to random testing.
  • This is a Mission Essential position. You will be required to ensure organization or facility continuity of operations and/or completion of tasks that are considered essential to the mission designated by a local or command decision.

The Screen-out Element for this position is: The ability to do the work of the position without more than normal supervision. An example of the screen out element would be: I have the ability to perform a full range of tasks of a Rigging Worker, to include experience performing a majority of the following duties with minimal supervision: use a basic knowledge of established standard rigging trade practices and techniques to select and install rigging equipment and weight handling gear such as chain hoists, cables, wire ropes, slings, chaffing gear, and chains used in more routine and standard rigging lifting, moving, and positioning a variety of large and heavy objects; determine the exact placement of the gear to assure that the load is safely secured and balanced; cover easily damaged parts of the load with protective boards, mats, or planks, and attaches load tag lines when necessary to control the drift and swing of the load during and lowering the load into the desired location; use hand signals to guide crane operators in hoisting, moving, and lowering the load into the desired location; determine the tools, materials, and equipment (marlin spikes, fids, serving mallets, rigger's screw, and swaging machine to splice, form, and finish the rigging gear), to be used. I work on my own initiative under general supervision subject to occasional inspection.
