You will serve as a SUPERVISORY RESEARCH EPIDEMIOLOGIST in the Biosurveillance Department, Infectious Diseases Directorate at the Naval Health Research Center (NHRC) of NAVHLTHRSCHCEN SDIEGO.

Duties

You will assist in providing management oversight of studies to ensure efficient operations and data integrity. You will coordinate the multidisciplinary investigator team on the appropriate statistical methodology for analysis of data. You will monitor the translation and transition of research to the formulation of military and beneficiary health policy. You will lead critical reviews of the scientific literature to locate relevant research reports on epidemiology in infectious disease. You will be responsible for the submission of research proposals to funding agencies in order to conduct research on topics important to the Navy, Department of Defense, and civilian research communities. You will write and prepare scientific reports and manuscripts, review reports, manuscripts, and other documents for accuracy in reported findings and their interpretation. You will develop performance standards and prepare performance appraisals by reviewing and evaluating work performance of subordinates. You will interview and select candidates for subordinate vacant positions, and recommend promotion, detail, or reassignment for such positions.

  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • Supervisors in the executive branch have a heightened personal responsibility for advancing government ethics. You will be required to review the 14 General Principles of Ethical Conduct at 5 CFR 2635.101.

Qualifications

In addition to the Basic Requirements for this position, your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-13 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Experience providing advice, guidance, and direction on a broad spectrum of public health and population health problems; Experience conducting comprehensive investigations to identify and characterize risk factors, develop strategies to improve disease surveillance across the DoD, and evaluate/recommend preventative measures; Experience using statistical and analytical tools, such as SPSS and SAS; Experience assessing the risk of infectious illnesses, chronic and acute illnesses, injuries and trauma, and occupational health illnesses in humans due to potential risk factors; and Experience writing and editing manuscripts, briefings, presentations, and publishing scientific reports in peer-reviewed journals. Education

Applicants must meet the following positive education qualifications requirements of the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualifications Standards Manual: Applicants must possess Bachelor's or graduate/higher level degree with a major study in an academic field related to the medical field, health sciences, or allied sciences appropriate to the work of this position from an educational program and an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time my degree was obtained.
